How much of a pain is the waterpump?

My waterpump shot craps on me today. How much of a pain is it on an ecotec? I just hope its nowhere near as bad as the 2.4L. Had to tow the stupid thing home today, wasn't terribly happy about that.

Sucks ass because I have an early flight on Christmas morning, and I wanted to leave the alero at the airport versus taking a taxi or leaving another car there.

1. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L (L61).
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
5. Remove the front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
6. Remove the access plate on the water pump sprocket from the timing cover.
7. Install J 43651 to the water pump sprocket.
8. Use the access plate bolts to secure J 43651 to the engine front cover.
9. Remove the bolts that secure the sprocket to the water pump.
10. Remove the bolt (1) that secures the engine block to the water pump.
11. Remove the bolt (2) that secures the engine front cover to the water pump.
12. Remove the feed pipe that joins the thermostat housing to the water pump.
13. Remove the 2 bolts that secure the water pump to the engine block.
14. Remove the water pump.

Doesn't sound too bad, I'll check into it more when I get home. I only looked at it for like 2 seconds when it shot craps on me and it looked like it was going to be only slightly annoying.

Probably right around the annoyance level of doing a thermostat on the 3400.

as far as water pumps go.. its not too bad.

It gives 4 hours labor, but the pump itself is a lil bit pricier than some

Not as bad as the Dodge 2.7 v6 motors. Theres one in now thats nearly 6.5hrs labor. def a PITA

Only took about 3 hours to do, but that was with a heavy amount of screwing around. Certaintly not as easy as what I work on at work on a daily basis, but it was nowhere near as hard as the water pump I did on my friends 93 300zx.
