My question is why would just one side go out and not both? Maybe its just me but sounds like some deeper issue. Think about it.

your lights blowing, have nothing to do with not having a cap..

But caps are needed, and help make a sub sound better..

Caps are put in systems, and wired close to the amp..

Think of a cap as a very quick sudden discharge, for "bass" hits, when your amp calls for the most current, to ask an amp to grab that sudden power it needs all the way from the battery is asking a bit much since its far away electrically..

Caps discharge faster than a conventional battery, and they should be wired as close as possible to the amp..

And yes, they help conserve power in your battery, because it dosent need to call that sudden need of current from the battery, which most is lost in transit, and turned into heat/wire resistance..

But the best example is hearing your sub with and without a cap..
Try it, you should then hear the differance.. its very noticible to me..

Your sub hits harder, and is much crisper, and distortion is way less..

The best analogy I can come up with is this..

think of a cap as a strike of lightning, with no sustain..
And a battery is a slow trickle of current with sustain..

The two together is harmony..

You really don't need a cap in your system just get a better battery. Optima or something. That or do a dual battery system using a voltage regulator to charge the secondary battery.

You dont need it, yes..

But have you heard one with, and without it..

They are excellent and help regardless of how man batteries you have..

Lead acid batteries do not discharge fast enough for subs..

Its the ying and yang.. they are amazing..
Batteries are slow to discharge.. CCAmps do not reflect what im talking about either..

Actually, if you REALLY wanna do it right.. grab one of those new "battery" capacitors, they are capacitors, but have depth and can start your car too.. I forget the names of a few of them.. but google it, you find what im talking about..
