wow... this thread is full of inaccurate info.

1) gas can't freeze at temps that sustain human life. (like previously stated, some "bad gas" can separate and cause issues) other wise, siberia/canada/greenland/artic regions wouldn't have any vehicles able to move on them. (i know most of them use different types from standard gasoline)

2) warm water does NOT freeze quicker then cold. last time i checked... if you boil water (100C) then freeze water (0C) there is no way to make the 100C get to 0C quicker then if the you had some that is say.... 20C. thats just plain idiotic. yes, i know its a common myth. its just like saying microwaves heat food from the inside out. it defies the laws of physics...

mike, the laws of thermodynamics pwn you.

By the way, common "rubbing alcohol" works if you have water in the tank. It mixes with both water & gasoline and, at less than $2 a quart bottle for 91%, it's a lot cheaper.

you should invest in getting your key re-cut... sometimes the key gets worn down and the ignition gets mad at it...

WOW, i dont even know where to start

first, if your going to try to tear into someone, dont skip second grade science class

i know gas doesn't freeze in normal climate. but water does. and if you live in cold climates, which if your havin this problem you do, getting water in your gas tank is very easy to do. thats why "iso heat" is so popular, it absorbs it. frost can accumulate inside your tank, then when it thaws you have water in your tank. most gas contains at least 10% ethenaol now, which also ATTRACTS water

and yes, hot water freezes faster then cold water

http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/11063/

its Common knowledge, search all you want or just throw two ice trays in your freezer, one with hot water, one with cold water from your sink. the hot water tray will freeze over faster, rapid cooling.

Life PWNS YOU!!! and so do I, because you have no idea what your talking about!!! but im glad you added some personal attacks, it made proving you wrong more fun.

so there is your thermodynamic link! i can provide 293294 more too if you want?

oh...and microwaves dont heat foot. we're not talking about a oven here, we're talking about exciting molecules and conventional heating is thrown out the window

someone liked skipping science class

that was in no way a personal attack.. more like an edcuational poking fun of. but if you took it personal, thats your problem.

and i will continue to protest the cooling of water issue, until you post something thats an accredited website. answerbag is just as useful as yahoogroups.

and yes, i know how microwaves work, i was just simplifiing the matter. but it could be argued that exciting molecules increases their rate of speed, thus providing friction leading to heat....

your educational poking fun of wasn't to educational though...since you were wrong on both accounts

warm water can freeze faster. a simple online search or experiment can prove that. but this is getting to off topic

i see what your doing, and its to be expected. its obvious you were trying to take personal attacks by saying my "theory" (or rather fact) was idiotic. i know your point of view, hot water has to become cold water before it freezes but there are ALOT more things to take into account.

there are alot of unexplainable or hard to explain things in nature that arn't what common sense would tell you is right. Water is a big one. why does it expand when it freezes? we all know it does, and why, but this is very unusual because most chemicals are more dense when frozen...but if it didn't expand and become less dense, we wouldn't be here...life wouldn't, according to science.

i told you... get your key recut and it might save you another ten minutes in the cold for a while... either your key is getting worn and your ignition cylinder doesn't like it... or your ignition is getting worn and nobody likes it... try a new key and it might fix the problem for a while anyhow... otherwise... if your ignition is wearing out... you'll need a new one.

I hate physics but now I wanna know if Hot distilled water freezes faster than Cold distilled water, which would rule out solutes. I say ya'll are both right. At any rate, I had to replace my fuel pump before 80K because I never changed out the fuel filter.

if you get another key cut and the problem still persists, you must replace your entire igy cylinder.

well i looked at it at school today and i found that it could be the gauge cluster too. but we dont have the scan tool that i need to scan for the security light so im gonna have to take it to a dealer if the new key doesnt do it.

i dont think you scan your car, but i know on my car ive always got a scanner plugged into the obdII port and once in a while it sets the security light...this is known to happen.
