Motor Mount Broke?

Hey guys, I just pulled into my driveway and the my car started making this nasty noise from the engine. I hopped out and took a look and the engine mount seems to be missing a bolt. It was shifted in and rubbing on my power steering pulley, at the reservoir. The passenger side of the engine seems to have dropped down a little bit too. What would be causing this? Is there any other mounts on that side that might have broke?

bump.. same problem occurred again after replacing the mount. a bolt broke off inside the engine so i got longer stainless bolts for the others and it broke again. now coolant seems to be leaking from around the area, from one of the pulleys it seems. i thought i had the limg problem until i inspected more closely. cant tell where the coolant is coming from but when hot it runs out rather fast, almost a steady flow. when running for like 5 minutes its a drip, approx. one drop every 3-5 seconds. sounds kinda fast for a limg, any ideas?

nevermind.. i tracked it down to the water pump. im just gonna take my old bracket for the engine mount and machine a new one out of stainless at work tonight. dont know if anyone knows what im talking about but its a plate that bolts to the engine, which in turn bolts ot the motor mount. if there are other with this problem, i will make a couple extra.

Good you figured it out, odd the engine mount bolts were breaking though.

Yeah thanks. I wrecked the car last fall and just got it back on the road this spring, but little things keep popping up here and there. I think the bolt was over torqued from the guy who did my bodywork, who also kinked the transmission line to the radiator, causing that to go. I just really hate the thought to ripping the engine out to get the bolt out the right way.

I'm a machinist, I think stainless would be a great choice, especially some of the stuff I have at work. Though you are right about certain types. Stainless contains usually somewhere around 15-20% Chromium, which is very brittle on its own. Martensitic is a brittle stainless steel, and also the first.

haha nice.. i took out some bushes, hit a van and pused that into an s10 going 50. totalled all three vehicles but i revived my alero, but im kinda regretting that now since i stressed everything. but what more do you wanna know about metals haha? i usually work with mild steels, stainless, and high temp nickel based alloys, mainly inconel and waspalloy. we build compressors for off shore drilling rigs and refineries. theres a lot of corrosive gases involed in the process that we gotta use specific materials. in fact im building a part out of inconel as i write this and its a 14 inch cylinder by 4 inches thick and the cost is 70 grand. thats before i even start milling away.

I've broke that motor mount with the 3 (or is it 4) bolts going into the block as well. Jumped this hill in northfield. I was young and dumber than I am now, Its a pretty steep hill with a railroad going threw in the middle so it flattens out for like 10 feet making the perfect launch ramp... It was a blast but decided to dangorus for the alero so started doing it with my 1993 dodge duster haha

..The duster is perfect as you can see from this picture
