warm air intake

sorry if this is on here somewhere and i just missed it while i was searching. The question i have is my warm air intake will be coming in the mail in a couple days. and of course i know you have to remove the old intake box. but the plastic pipe that comes from the front of the car to feed to old intake. would it be better to leave this part in there because it would feed air to the intake or would it be better to just remove that also? i was also thinking about a heat sheild for it. what do you guys think would this even help or should i just not worry about it? and for evenone thats going to say just put in a cai. i cant my apartments roads kinda flood a little when it rains heavily and this usually happens a good 5 or 6 times a summer so i rather not deal without being able to get home or out because of hydrolock

Welcome another Michigan member!

Ditch the stock crap in the fenderwell, it's dead weight, useless. Heatshield is also pretty useless. The temperature difference will be less than 1 degree.

How deep is the flooded water? My CAI is 1.5 ft above the ground, so unless I drive through 1.5+ feet of water long enough for it to suck it to the engine I'm fine. I've driven through MASSIVE amounts of rainfall and HUGE puddles without issue.

the water can get up there at times. it actually just happened a few days ago where it can get about a foot deep so i figured i would just play it safe and go with the warm air. im going to be putting a exaust on there anyway so im not worred to much about the difference in hp gain between the intakes

It's a minimal gain anyway. I did it for the sound (supercharger echoes through a lot louder).

Last time I drove through a "HUGE" puddle, my intake slurped up the water and my car killed over in the middle of the road. cranked it for a good 15 seconds and it sputtered back to life, gave it some major RPM and putted off to the house.. dried everything up, ran it for about 20 minutes.. its all good now.

I hate driving in the rain.

Yeah- I played it safe and got a WAI after reading stories here about hydrolock and all with the CAIs in bad rain weather. for instance, my driveway sometimes puddles up at the end at (never measured it) what I would guess is a foot, not to mention snow around here sometimes is high enough to hit my front bumper cover, so, I went with the WAI- and I personally love the sound it has.
I don't think you'll be dissapointed, and yeah, you don't need that stock stuff, just like ion said.

one more question for you guys. how did you brace your warm air intake to stop it from kinda flopping around? and after you installed it did you notice a difference in your shirts (automatic) i installed mine today and it felt like the shifts were just a little different. maybe this is just new part fever kicking in so i figured i would ask
