i did a quick qiki on that engine... heres the list of cars i got... for those interested

also... i've been doing some reading on this. heres what i've come up with. please help me out here guys.

so if you do this swap (2.4 manifold) you should get a tune done on your car. on f-body cars you have to because the ecm doesn't look at the air flow and your car will run like shit. cobalts dont need to be tuned but will gain more horsepower than without a tune since they do adjust for the added air flow somewhat.

and you will also need an adapter with a whole or something for the throttle body... i am seriously interested in this swap... i'm assuming i would need to get new gaskets if i get the parts from a junk yard?

and sounds like 2.4 throttle bodies are fly by wire (i think thats what it's called) so they can't be used on our cars since we use fly by cable...

hows my research look?

Umm a little backwards, iirc the HHR has an electric TB and we have cable driven

Your research is pretty good.
According to the research Ive been doing, you can use the manifold even if you have a cable driven throttle body. You need to buy an adapter plate that will allow for this. Also, I dont know if this applies to aleros, but it said something about making a slit in the manifold for the IAC sensor (dont know what this is).

I think I would spend the money and get the Short runner intake manifold from Vulcan Turbo sure it costs more but w/e it doesn't look stock.

I actually like the fact that the 2.4 one looks stock. I also like that its plastic, thus lighter than an aluminum one.

Ya i believe that i've read on ecotec forum that the aluminum intakes heat up more than the stock ones and that the stock ones are pretty good up to 300 hp anyway. One of you guys gotta hurry up and go turbo cause i wanna see what one of our alero's can do with a turbo eco.

thanks valley. i found that also! i would go and buy a 2.4 manifold right away... but i'm not sure where i would drill the hole for the aic module thing to go. and where it goes and stuff like that.

and would our ecms adjust for the added air flow? not like the f body cars

I'd thought I'd chime in on this (cause im being a post whore, but helping out at the same time), I did the Dyno tuning on the maniforld swap for CrateEngineDepot.

The 2.4 has a larger inlet at the throttle body, I swapped the 2.4 unit witch was a direct swap. Granted the cobalt is fly by wire. I see no reason that the cable throttlebody wont bolt up. The contraversy sparked on Cobaltss.net was the trade off in the power curve though. The 2.4 used VVTI and that makes up low end torque. The 2.4 Manifold has longer runners, it gained significantly at the high end but lost in the 2k to 3k range.

Any questions I'll be happy to answer.

Also to some other comments: That Saab intake bounced aroudn the cobaltss forum al ot too about how to get the L61 to and LNF motor, but frankly unless someone really wanted to do it themselves it was way cheaper to trade up to an accual Cobalt SS with the LSJ or LNF. However now myself being and Alero Addicted guy I can see the attraction, it can be done, just a lot of fab work.
