I know theres been questions pertaining to this but I know Eh Nigmas Nascar style exhaust looks good and It probably sounds good. And he has the Ecotec and so do I, but I have a flowmaster 80 series muffler. I'm about to get my header on Tuesday and I'm gonna have 2.5 inch piping ran from header to muffler, would it be smart to keep the resonator on or keep it off. And will I get more horses from 2.5 inch piping or what? What I'm trying to say is will it be more louder than with just my muffler or no difference. Is Eh Nigmas setup good for loudness or horsepower? Just give any info if possilble.

If you engine is stock, no head, intake or any other mods, 2.25ID is plenty, dont loose the cat, get a high flow one. it will be worth the money and keeping your car runing right.. my buddy cut his cat off of his 03 sunfire and it runs like poop 20000Km later. dont worry about the rezonator, the 80 series muff is quite quiet you will be able to aviod most noise laws even without a rezonator and cat, but get a high flow cat.
I have a 40 series on my car now and its JUST a muffler and tip, and its FOKIN loud and it drowns like hell... most ppl dont like that, i personally do. So if you dont like the sound of a mustang with flowmasters then avoid any of the louder ones... just a word of advice
I think that 2.25 with a high flow cat and a flowmaster would be quite nice.

I also faced the problem of having to decide 2.5 or 2.25, i decided 2.25. I have the pacesetter header(easy install) 2 and 1/4 all the way back, no cat, and in place of the resonator, i have a moroso spiral flow muffler, from there i have a single tip out of the back of my car. It sounds deep and powerful, in high RPM when the car is cold it will be a bit toney, but afterwards, its verynice, very deep and powerful sounding :thumbsup:

Keep the stock cat, no need to waste money on a highflow cat unless your just increasing the pipe sizes all the way through. If so then I would go with a cheaper highflow cat from Dynomax, Catco or Flowmaster. I think all three could be had under $100. Stock cat's have dynoed very well. You will only gain like 1-2hp and about 3lbs of torque. These results were from a stock cat versus a $300+ Random Tech high flow cat. Not worth the expense for the minimal gains.
As far as the pipes go...go 2.5-inch diameter. Again it has been dyno proven that 2.5 achieves better results over 2.25, with no loss of torque. Actually a slight increase in the 2.5 over the 2.25.
Dump the resonator, not needed. Extra weight and restriction.

yea stay with the stock cat.
far as resonator, it eliminates some of the raspy sound of the exhaust but if you have a good muffler with a nice deep tone then you wouldn't need the resonator.
i have catco cat with 2.5 SLP pipes and magnaflow muffler and it has a great tone. deep at idle and isn't really loud when you get into it.

I have the IRL pace car exhaust on mine which is 2.5" (it's a TIGHT fit) and i elected to leave the resonator just in case (i don't need another loud car). It has a pleasing sound to it, not noticably louder at idle, but it has a voice once you step on it about equally as loud as the intake sound. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like without the resonator.

You don't have emmisions testing in Lawrenceville?
I can't remember if they checked for a cat or not on my last test.

And I do have an intake and about to get my header so will 2.5 piping be good with or without resonator. If it sounds a little deeper and louder than I'll get it taken off, and if it adds hp and torque

this is prolly stupid but...can u get an exaust for an auto?
i honestly do not kno the answer to that cuz i just assumed only standards can get those xhausts.....
again sorry for the blonde moment

im running 2.5 all the way through with a high flow cat... you can get an exhaust for a automatic it just wont sound the same as a 5spd
|

This'll clear your up...
The exaust system has NOTHING to do with the transmission. Any exaust that will fit the ecotec will work with both manual and automatic trannies.
Do you want me to explain where the exaust piping goes?

^^honesty exhaust has nothing to do with tranny. But the exhaust on an auto and a 5spd , is slightly different.
Most tuner will be able to tell if you are driving an auto or stick by listen to the exhaust becasue of the shift point and each time you step on the clutch, unless you very good at shifting, then you can hide the fact that you have a stick.
