Aftermarket deck w/ factor amp... no sound?

I can't figure out why my new head unit won't work and I need some help.

I've tried two different head units... both had power, the CD played, but I couldn't get sound out of any speaker. I've checked volume, balnace, faders, etc... but still nothing is working at all for sound.

I'm wondering how the factory amp turns on... I read that it turns on via the Class II wiring, which to me would still then be turning on the amp when the radio is on... but who knows.

Do you think I need to run a remote lead from the new aftermarket deck to the factory amp to get it to turn on? Does anyone know if that factory amp (I've got the Sun & Sound package) run's all 6 speakers, or just the dual voice coil 6x9's in the rear deck?

Any help is greatly appreciated... I've been without tunes for so long now it's really driving me nuts!

did u buy a wiring harness for your new deck? or use a wiring diagram

Yeah... I bought a wiring harness. I've got one of the Chime ones from Metra I bought at Circuit City.

That seems to be working (the chimes all work)... but no sound out of the deck.

I just had this exact problem. I'll tell you what the problem is. The factory amp will not work unless you bypass it somehow with a kit or wiring from that factory amp to the new head unit. I had professional installer do it. Looked way to complicating.

My sisters Malibu had the factory ampand I'm not sure how I got it to work but I think ithad soething to do withthe fact that I used the Radio relocate kit and at first when I i tried testing to se if the radio work I got no sound than after playing around with it and unpluging to amp and pluging it back in it suddenly started working. I think maybe i turned on the factory radio while pluggged in to the relocate harness and turned the volume down and then it worked. then again i'm just guessinghow i got it to work butit is going through the amp.
