ok so i was thinking about putting HID headlights in my car and i found a place to buy them HID (http://www.oznium.com/hid). So my question was does anyone have these or any other kind that can let me know what you think of the HID headlights in general. Also any problems with the cops because of how bright they are? Are they worth buying in the first place?

I've been monitering a thread about these over at GAGT. Last I checked, only one guy had put it in his Jeep and he had no problems, put on a lot of miles and no one flashed their lights back at him, never pulled over. I am trying to get me this later this month, should be pretty easy to install (9006 w/ 6000K).

would be nice.
but what about this?
"We recommend that you keep your stock headlight bulbs handy so you can reinstall them when you drive your car on public roads. USE OF AFTER-MARKET HID HEADLIGHTS ON PUBLIC ROADS IS ILLEGAL. OZNIUM LLC SELLS HID HEADLIGHTS STRICTLY FOR USE AT CAR SHOWS OR ON NON-PUBLIC ROADS."
Are they really illegal?

installing aftermarket is...i've had them on my car for a year and a half and have had no issues at all. most of the police don't know what comes factory and whats aftermarket..

that actually looks pretty good. i would have expected a whiter light without projectors.

they do look good and nice and bright. i really wouldn't worry too much about the police...like i said, there are so many cars that have these kind of lights from the factory that there is really no way to tell what is what.
they issued that warning to cover their own ass basically..

double, why do you want 8000? (just want your opinion)

the bulbs last forever...well at least a long time anyway. the higher the number, the bluer you get. the only other issue that you get is that the higher the number, the brighter the light...so you might have a real blue light, but it will be crazy bright.
I blew out a ballast on mny 6000K and i'm just upgrading to the 8000K this time to get a little more blue look thats all.

Actually, the higher the K, the more color the light has, but the less bright it is.

i know that this is going to sound stupid but what do you mean when you say ballast?

yup listen to silent. 10k you don't be able to see good, plus it'll be so blue, you'll be in trouble. Then all the old farts will complain back to nhtsa, and they will ban aftermarket HID sales. (which was just UNbanned a few months ago; They banned HID sales back in 2003)

holly hell 14,000K i have never seen HID Kelvin that high. thats f***ing nuts. 14,000k would definatly be for show, but i dont know too many show cars with thier lights on.
if you want to see like a hawk, stick between 4,500 and 6,000
i believe, its 5,500 is the color of daylight (correct me if im worng)
ask Anderbra, he's been in the HID gettup for a while.

Ok, I will ;) Its about 4100-4300k for sunlight. That is the OEM spec of every HID setup I know (BMW, Audi, Infinity etc)
The colour you see on those cars is the projector cutoff. The light itself is pure white, look on the road next time one is beside you. That light gives you the most visibility with the least fatigue on your eyes.
When I had HID's I had 4100k and loved them because they lit the road up SO well. They definitely don't look like Halogens when you look at them, but they are just pure bright white. For a bit more show, you can go for a bluer bulb.
One thing to be aware of though is there are only a couple companies that make really good HID bulbs (IE Phillips and Silvania) and the highest they go is 5000k. Anything over that usually uses a coating on the bulb and decreases light output even further.
Also, as your bulbs get old they get less bright, and also bluer ;)
P.S. I taught Ander everything he knows

You're right -Alero-, daylight ranges from the 3000K's to mid 5000's at noon on a sunny day. My number of low 4000's is 'average' daylight, not the peak intensity. (mildly owned) ;)

wow... took me like 4 mintues to even see those graphs. i like the last one.
only think i didn't understand is the "high pressure sodium" part. sodium alone is shiny gray. if put in water, a nice bright white flame (followed by the sodium propelling out of the water, and exploding... careful, its dangerous)
other then that... nice googling.
-alero-, no offense, but what are you an "expert" at? everyone knows something well.. and you seem to google EVERYTHING...

no i originally guessed that 5,500 was the pure light temperature, and the B-spot said it wasnt so, i figured i would look it up, and i found those graphs so i posted them. :dontknow:

High pressure sodium refers to a sodium bulb, like a street light ;)
(Actually I thin k street lights might be low pressure sodium lights, but a variation of the same concept).
