Timing Belt

My timing belt broke up last friday, and hopefully i had the warranty still on, because it would cost me like 1444Cdn$ only for the pieces. It took 8hours to get rid of this and i would know if its a frenquently problems on alero. Its a 2002 2.2 eco automatic.Thx

umm if i'm not mistaking actually i'm a 100% sure after reading the ecotec doesn't have a belt it's a chain correct me if i'm wrong. I haven't heard any problems with them breaking but you could be one of the first mine is an 03 eco with almost 80k on it and i haven't had any problems. As far as ur warranty goes u would have to check with the dealership. Btw what did it take 8hrs getting rid of ???

In fact i dunno what the difference between a chain and a belt, but the mecano said a belt???..anyway dosent really matter, it broke down. Because it broken up when i was riding, the valves goed play in the engine and the cylinder so they changed the head and other stuffs (sorry if i use wrong english term in english, im from quebec soo :) ) So thats it..hope you nerver have to face it if out of warranty.

That's hard luck man.

Belts break more often than chains, usually with the chains it's the gears that break up, not the chain.

Since you where driving when it happened, the vavles and pistons hit each other causing a bent vavle. After you get the chain (or belt) fixed, don't drive too far for a while. Maybe 2 weeks or so, until you know that the vavles are OK (or unless your mech checked all of them)

Yesterday i left with my car, and when i came back i saw black stuff in my parking, It was ice, but with oil or something like this, it was in the front left rim, does it good or not? I changed my galiper from this wheel this automn, is it broken again?

Could be a loose line, or maybe the caplier piston seized up which would cause the brake line pressure to leak out fluid

What do you have to do if one of your calipers seizes up?
hopefully it didn't seize in the closed position, otherwise you'll be burning up the pads & rotor if you try to drive. Otherwise if it seized in the open position, you'll be able to drive either home to replace it yourself or to a mechanic to have someone else fix it. If it'a a front caliper, everytime you step on the brakes, it will pull to the side with the working caliper. Since this question was asked in July, I guess you probably know all this by now.:coolio:
