Seat-console-Seat??

maybe have a clear plexi console in the middle with 2 6x9's and a cathode or two.... ?

feasible, or am i just delirious again? :P

i'd be comfy-er then what we have back there.... but would it work?

what kind of mounting work out it require?

go unclip your back seat and see if there is somewhere to fasten rails... and measure the head clearance...... if i'm not mistaken i'd say that it might be to short of a verticle area for a conventional bucket seat... casue the backseat is kindof just a cusion on a bench...

Been done in a few Grand Ams already so I would have to say that it would work. The original concept GA SC/T had 4 racing seats with a center console in the rear as well.

Like any racing seats for the N-Body, you'd have to fab up your own brackets and whatnot and find sutiable reinforced areas along the floor to bolt them down to.

ya that would be an awesome mod to have some racing seats in the front and back of the alero.

NO that would suck, real racing seats aren't all that comfy. They're more to keep ur arse planted.

suggestion, find a pair of low-back racing seats for the rear, and have them upholstered to match your fronts. Should match nicely.

Apparently, you've never sat in a pair of Scheel racing seats. I had those in my '74 Porsche, and drove straight through from LA to Houston only stopping for gas and grabbing food to go, fast as I could get back on the road.

When I arrived, I felt just fine like I hadn't actually been sitting for hours on end.\

Down side is those seats are $900-$1,000 each (at least back in '92). Who knows what they would cost now days.

ive seen racign seats in the back on our cars. dunno how it was done.

but i guess if you want you could re upholster the rear seats the way yo uwant, and then cut out the center section. and make it a console style.

problem would be foldign the seats down, cause the center console would be in the way.

I was looking to do the same mod, It was going to be the next one i did. i was going to replace the front seats and back seats with all matching racing seats. Then i was going to buy a middle console off ebay that looks good. Then i was going to take my car to a local fiberclass place and have then get rid of the stupid cusion that surrounds the stock back fold down seats and replace with a fiberglass outline, to make it look really smooth. Have them paint it the same color as my car. Then have them remake my heavy wood sub box, with fiberglass so that each sub was facing the back of the seats, with a middle slot port facing the middle console. In my head its going to look kick ass, and make our heavy cars just that much lighter. cant wait!

hey, checked out your cardomain site, lookin good.
as far as the seats go, i'm thinking head clearance is going to be an issue in the back. and you're looking at a pretty penny for the fiberglass work if you pay someone to do it. you could probably do it yourself and save some dough. and as far as losing pounds, we drive aleros, the only thing heavier is a bradley tank. i doubt it will make much difference there.

Yes four racing seats will work check out this cardomain,

M2 Bradley?

BlackJack
01-30-2006, 05:49 AM
:offtopic:

that's what I was referring to; M2A1, M2A2, M2A3, M3, M6 take your pick
it's a heavily armored and gunned APC. Tell an M1 crewmember that a Bradley is a tank and you'll likely get socked in the eye.

Off topic for a sec, but yes... like our LAVIII... not a tank, AFV... but anywho, on topic - has anyone been able to find pictures of this mod being done on either an Alero or a Grand Am?

cherrington17
02-05-2006, 10:58 PM
it was posted on the last page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/610214

anyone know if that person is a member, or if they still exist? lol

i have a few questions for them.

Looking at the shot of the seats, there seems to be very little clearance between the top of the seat and the back window - something to consider? But besides that, it looks pretty good I would say. Definately a mod to consider!

cherrington17

thats what i've been wondering.

back window clearance?
how much room is left in between?
how much back window do you still have to look out of?

and from the few sites i've looked up seats in, sparco, recaro and tenzo are the names in aftermarket seats.

but some sites sell then in pairs for like $400-600 other have the same price, but do NOT say for a pair. is there really that much of a price difference, or do you always buy seats in pairs?

white04alero

its very easy to do it in the alero.. sorry i know im late on the subject.. but doin' it in the alero is relatively easy compared to my gf's 92 honda accord.. im talkin driver seat laid all the way back the the steering wheel all the way up
her on top
works perfectly TRY IT

Seats generally don't get sold as pairs (however Tenzo usually does) and the back window issue will depend on how you do your mounts and how tall your seats are. Also think of how much one actually does look out their back window (I'm talking like turn around and look out) because you will still be able to see out through the mirror easily. And in my case I can't hardly see out back window because of tint anyway.

Take a closer look, looked to me like the seats are touching the window...

Mastercraft and Corbeau also make some really nice seats

Im getting all this work done on march10th here soon, the seats hitting the window was brought up and they are going to take about two inches out of the floor to fit the seats, adn as far as lookin out the backwindow i dont, i use all side mirrors window tint at night makes back window virtually impossible to use

make sure to post some pics of the "during" process if possible. i'm really interested, but don't want to fubar the backseat of my car.
