I have seen some custom taillights on this sight that look pretty sweet. I know ths fella from Anderbra innovations makes them. I am curious if there is anyone one the sight that has attempted this them selves. I would obviously get a set from the wrecker before i started man handling my own. I am pretty handy with this sort of thing as im sure if you have seen any of my past projects you would agree, so i would like to give this a shot. If someone has tried it I would love a brief tutorial on the subject.. Thanks

What are u actually trying to do to the taillights? U wanna give it an LED look or smoke them out or what?

Nah, I saw some tails that looked completely clear with no red or yellow plastic at all. Im assuming the guy that made them took the front portion off and molded his own clear lens fornthe front of the light. Ill see if I can find a pic

i am pretty sure the tail lights are different from the front light in regards to clearing them. I am sure that the lens on the outside itself is actually the coloured part and a new lens would need to be molded to fit the back side of the assembly

Like the front lights the rear loghts should have two lenses, the outside clear lenses and the colored lenses. No molding is involved in it at all, Just simply heat up the two lenses in the oven at about 400 degrees and be sure to watch them so they dont melt...but just hot enough to break the glue seal between the two lenses and there u go.

just make sure you do check local laws writie before you start this. as far i know you do also have to have a refelctor in the rear. now does anybody really get busted for not having their reflector up front? for some reason the rears really seem to set the coppers off.

ur correct that u have to mold a new clear lens for the tails. its not the same as clearing the headlights.
my advice is dont bother. if u were to see any of the cleared tails in person..... ud think twice about attempting it. in other words they pretty much look like crap.
its just one of those things where a company really needs to make them to make them look like what ur used to seeing.
just my $.02

i concur with sweet...both sets of clear tails i've seen in person looked like ass cause they just dont fit back into the hole quite right. i would just give up on it while you can.

I think the lights above look really good. What is it about the lights that look like a@@ in person. These light seem to fit really well. I think these style of light would look really good on a black or silver Alero.

Anybody got any info on this?

i'm guessing you could get some clay, mold the outter shape with that then kiln it till its hard. put lexan/plexi over that, and hit it w/ a heat gun or oven until it heats enough to bend over the shape.
then its a matter of how to get it to attatch to the light...
but thats my take on it...
Anderbra keeps pretty quiet about it since he sells them. don't want everyone producing their own, since he'd then be out of business....

they dont fit back into the hole properly....there's a gap between fender and light...maybe pacho can take a pic for you

okay so i'm bored...heres a pic of pacho's up close...you can see the little gap there, but its bigger in person...

ya i guess u could say we are being pickey about them. but then again we dont want parts on our cars that look like crap. i guess u dont mind having crap on ur car though

i'm sure if its your own car, and you managed to work out a "functional" model.. you could tweak it with alot of free time to make it NOT look like crap.
its just the matter of how much dedication are you willing to give it?
but wrightie, you seem to do quality work... give it a shot.... at worse, you'll just scrap the projet....

Well 2sweet I would have to assume you are a very intelligent little man by how eliquently you express your self. There are better ways to get you point across than being rude. You dont no me nor do you know if zI like crap on my car. Grow up dood and get the chip off your shoulder

i'm also planning on clearing the lenses...but doing something a little different with the housing. if you go thru with it, let me know how you went about making the new lens and how it turned out.

i dont understand why there's a gap... if you re-create the stock red lens with a clear piece of lexan... why should anything change?

but as with your sub setup, your the kinda guy who won't give up till its done. good luck. :thumb:

if your gonna clear the tail lights i say, tint the tail lights is a necessity

someone should start selling just the outside lenses. then, we could customize our tails how we want them. however, the smoked altezzas on the maroon ho look pretty darn good. i think its because they aren't really dark.

Not a bad idea, it would be a cleaner look. I just dont know if the yellow part of lens is the cover like the red part or an insert. How hard is that and would it cost just as much Wrightie?

the lense is all one piece and is plastic welded to the taillight housing. he'd have to replace the whole lense then tint it red.

I just think it would be a cleaner look without the yellow piece in our tails but, its too much time and money for the finished product. Anyone have any other tail concepts in mind?

Ok so Im a month late into this thread, but heres my opinion. Altezza's, cleared tail lights, whatever you may call the are so five years ago. They came in and went out as quick as well, spandex and Vanilla Ice. No car should what so ever have cleared tail lights on them, not even the stock ones on the Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima/Maxima look good. F&F made them ricey.

^^^^^ oh how i agree :) i have always hated them, along w/ body kits, aftermarket wings, and so forth....

okay, so anything but stock is lame? that's basically what you're saying troyer. most people who have stickers on their cars (3rd brake overlays, and olds window signatures) and 7 color side markers are considered "ricey"
as far as taillights, i believe that some "euro tails" look ok. but, you shouldn't get clear tails just becuase they make them for your car. that's stupid. what i did was to spray my tails with clear red paint. this gave them the red look without the amber reflector. i used testors translucent candy apple red, with wetsanding of 1000 and 2000 between coats, and 3 coats of clear, wetsand in between but not on last coat. they turn out a little darker than stock, but not bad at all. i'm using some white vinyl over the center lights so you won't be able to tell. you could also use red vinyl laminate.

ok i like those^^^ how do they look at night? you should take some pics. and i think they look better dark maybe you should do that to the inside ones

they look fine at night. no problems at all. as far as the inners, i'm having vinyl overlays made that get rid of the middle lamp except for an olds rocket over the backup lights.
