I searched the site and bought 2 #74 blubs from a web page that -Alero- suggested. I didn't get them yet, but I bought one blue and one super white, becasue I don't know which I'll like better. They are LED's
The question I have, that I couldn't find an answer for is: Do I have to pull out the dash to install or can I just reach up inside the cubby hole?

reach around and pull the socket out from the back side.

Thread Jesus, but how in the hell do I pull the bulb out?
I tried the other day and I couldn't get it out. I do wanna break it in the socket. Is there a trick to pulling it out?
And I bought 73 bulbs.

Sry for bringing this one out, but I did buy some 73 or 74 bulbs from superbrightleds but they don't seem to make good contact in the factory socket for the cubby hole bulb. They light up when jiggling with them, but are not staying on. I was wondering what I could do?

they should twist into the socket, if i remember right.... if it doesn't fit just right, maybe toss a piece of tape around the base?

I took a socket from Comanche because I already screwed mine the first time.
And no, they doesnt twist out. You have to pull the bulb out. With fingers its almost impossible. The first tim I used plyers directly on the bulb like a dumbass and I almost got blind when the bulb exploded in thousands of pieces that I received near the eyes. Second time I used a towel that I wrapped around the socket and the bulb and used a pair of plyers to take the bulb out. I said to myself that even if I broke the bulb, pieces wouldnt get anywhere but in the towel, and not in my eyes  Finally, the bulb got out without breaking.
Again, the led fits in the socket, theres just a bad contact and I can get it to light if I play a bit with the led. Maybe its the wires that are screwed up. Maybe I'll try a socket from YALERO. My other bet would be to find a socket for 73 size led and make it fit in there, but I would prefer if it could fit in the original socket for installation purpose.

hmm... i guess i took out the bulb and socket.. which twists into place.
come to think about it... i still have that sitting somewhere around here. i just drilled two holes in the top of the cubby and put leds in there... never used the bulb.

Maybe we got mixed up, yeah the socket twist out of its location, while the bulb pulls straight out
