I own a 2000 Alero Coupe with a 2.4L - 4cylinder and I want to change the spark plugs. I heard from a GM guy that I definitely should not go with anything that is not platinum because the engine timing in the long run could screw up.
Is this true or what?
I want to get the Bosch platinum becuase it is half the price of buying ACdelco (GM) brand platinum spark plugs.
Would there be a difference or no?

I don't want to mess up my engine timing or anything like that so I need some proper advice.

Thanks to all that help.

The platinum-tipped electrode only serves to lengthen the life of the spark plug. GM recently switched to factory-installed Iridium-tipped spark plugs. ACDelco and NGK are the most recommended brands.

go with an american plug (AC DElco), the only thing platinum does for you is give the plug a longer life, at the expense of a weaker spark.

The general rule of thumb for plugs is.............
american car=american plugs (AC Delco, champion, etc)
german car = german plugs (bosch..)
japanese car = japanese plugs (NGK..)
etc

I always go with the OEM plugs (AC Delco in this case) That's what the car was designed for optimally.

And just a quick addition... Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you EVER use Champion plugs.

Trust me on this.
