Hey guys, Well I did my car installation with my new system but it seems I lost my chimes. I relocated the STOCK HU in the trunk and everything works fine expects the chimes. Any clue whats up?

Thanks

I had the same problem but I was thanking the lord because I can't stand the door chimes when i'm working on something while trying to listen to the radio. But i would be interested to hear the fix for it. I couldn't figure it out either.

did you get or hook up the little speaker that comes in the relocating kit, thats what will make your chimes chime... i dont think ALL the kits have it

yah i know i'm probably gonna get $hit for this, but in order to keep my chimes w/a new HU i will have to relocate the original HU?

Yes you either need to relocate and have a kit that supports it or get a chime module... i think they are availible.. but they are more

Some don't have the speaker included in the kit. I used an old factory GM front speacker I had laying around. I belive the schosce is the one I have and towards the dash end of the harness there is a pigtail with 2 wires and a white connector that plugs into there under dash speacker which I belive costs $30. I just cut that connector off and soldered it on to the speaker I was using then hid the speacker in the bottom og the center console facing the front and it is pleanty loud

Strangely enough when I replaced my stock with an aftermarket Sony x-plod, I got a new chime sound, which is a lot better, its 3 fast beeps about 5 secs after i turn the car off. Lower pitched and not as screetchy as the stock. I guess it all depends on lots of factors.

Thats just the deck reminding you to remove the face plate. It has nothingto do with the cars chimes. Most aftermarket radios to the face plate reminder chime afer you shut off the car.

You can buy the Chime Module harness at Circuit City for $50.00. It is loud so just put tape over the speaker to muffle it.

Just a warning...if you go to Best Buy and the "installer" "uses" the computer to find out what the "right" harness is...it'll say the Scosche GM06, which will relocate the headunit and has a speaker for chimes, but you'll lose retained accessory power.

Please note that I didn't buy the GM06, knowing this wasn't what I wanted. I calmly asked the guy to tell me how this harness would keep retained accessory power since none of the wires leaving the headunit carry voltage to indicate whether RAP is active or not. He kept telling me that "this red wire" comes from the stock headunit and goes to the accessory power for the aftermarket HU and this is what they use in the Impala and Monte Carlo. I kept telling him that it must be accessory switched, not RAP...finally got aggravated and left. I have the GMRC-01 in my car. At least he didn't say anything about the air bags...

probably wouldn't have gone to best buy

yeah best buy told me that the only bracket for my car for the radio would require cutting the plasitc behind the radio to allow my deck to fit and low and behold Circuit city had one that required no cutting and worked out better in the end.
