They'll all fit, but they'll take a bit of creativity to get them to fit.

I actually used a lathe to make my own sleeve that goes over the shift lever, under the universal handle. The universal fitting handles will leave about 1/2" gap and the screws won't be long enough to hold them in.

Also, those first 2 you posted should be ok. The third one won't look good, because it is too short. Alero shifters are long.

The first two are sort of similar to my Levoc shifter... just more angular-ish looking.

Those push-button shifters don't look that good mounted. Here is what my old one used to look like. The things sit way too high up on the shifter.

Yea i am not a fan of the ones like posted above at all...Could you explain a little bit more about what you had to do to get yours to fit naich..pics???

Are you saying that the first 2 will fit without modification...or ne of them will need modification to make fit??

They will all need modifications to fit. But the mod is as simple as wrapping a bunch of tape around the shifter to increase the size of it. Kind of a ghetto way to do it, but it will work.

What I did was to make a little "pipe" out of aluminum. It fits over the stock shift handle, and screws down onto the handle. Then, the levoc shift knob screws down onto the "pipe". Basically, it is like metal sleeve that fits inside the aftermarket knob and over the stock handle.

I can't believe someone actually found a shifter knob for an automatic. I thought I was screwed on that issue.

alrite, check it out. i used a carbon fiber and chrome push button shifter in mine. to shorten my shifter straw, i used a pipe cutter that is used for plumbing. then, you have to cut down the actuator itself a little bit. after that, i used electrical tabe to get the knob to fit snug. i'll see if i can get any pics of it. it's like a short shifter, looks really good.

Naich - ditto on finding out where to get the one you have, also would you consider doing the fitment mod for a fee?
Thanks,
Collin

I would love to make the pieces for you guys, and I'd do it at cost.. but the problem is that when I made mine, I was still in college and my IE lab building had a full blown metal working shop in it. I had to learn to use the lathe, cnc, milling machine, bandsaw, etc. Since I'm now an alumni, I don't have access to the lab anymore.

As for the shifter knob I have, it is made by Levoc, and it came from PFYC. It was expensive ($60+ if I remember right). However, browsing their site, it appears they don't sell them anymore. The only place I can find it online is here: http://www.optionsauto.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NPX-LV461

I'll take a pic of my handle tomorrow.... i don't have a good pic of it.

so naich...basically the idea is that in someway...doesn't really matter how the stick that goes into the knob has to be made so that it is a larger diameter.....and thats it. You just did it the right way...where as i could do it....the poor mans way??? correct?

you could use a piece of silicon tubing to get it to fit snug.

Naich

yeah, but you wanna use a piece of material that is solid... not something that has a lot of play in it. I'd use like electrical or duct tape instead of silicone tubing... just because you want something that won't have a lot of "play" in it. IE, you don't want the shifter to feel "rubbery."

Awesome, thanks for the link - got one ordered. I guess I'll just see if my local custom shop can rig something up with it.

I really can't stand the straight tubular type shifters like 2fst4u and silentalero have - just look so out of place to me, but to each their own. :) Can't wait to get the new one in.

Cheers,

use vinyl dye

Naich

yeah, dye is the way to go with the stock shift knob.... but the new one will look much better.

I LOVE MY KNOB! Its one of the few replacement auto ones that i like. It came with the sleeve that everyone is saying they had to make, and it fits on really well. I also made a cover that matches the rest of my interior, for the shifter and the brake lever. The knob was bought from PFYC i think, its an ichibaun, and its available in lotsa different colours. I think it was on sale for $29 when i bought it. Its brushed aluminum and leather. holla any questions.

I ordered my new automatic shifter knob but I can't seem to get the stock one to come off. I don't see any screws or anything. How does this thing come off?

violentrapture

There's a small clip (looks like a large staple) on the front - pull it out... might need to use a knife or flathead screwdriver - then the knob just pulls right off.

I dont think they sell that on pfyc ne more...atleast i havent ever seen it on there.

I dont think i'll have a problem finding some sort of sleeve to use if i just go to a few different hardstores and look around....If i come up with something good i'll let everyone else know. I should get mine around tuesday or wednesday i THINK. atleast i hope :glare:
