I found this website that smokes taillights and some of the cars look pretty sweet. www.smokinlights.net (http://www.smokinlights.net)I deffinitly want to do somthing to my tail lights but not sure what yet, either tint them, vynal them, or smoke them. Has anyone gotten thier taillights smoked? I don't feel like sending mine away and especially for the price of $150 + $20 s/h. Or would i be better off finding a place locally or get them tinted.
Thanks, Corey

A lot of people just do it themselves with I believe VHT Nite Shade... I am not 100% sure if that is the right name, do a search and you should come up with something.

I have a silver 4 door, do you think I should tint mine or should I make my own design with chrome taping like turtlesride did?

i recommend tint over chrome taping for all cars. that taping just looks junky

I'm planning on lightly smoking/tinting mine with VHT Niteshades.

IMO, red or white cars don't look good with the tinted tails...unless they have some black stuff going on anyway.

Lets say I wanted to tint my taillights. Do I take them apart like my headlights when I clear corrner them? And I could either do them myself or get them tiinted somewhere?

how to do it:
1) buy a can of VHT Nite Shades
2) Remove taillights from car
3) Clean the taillights and make sure they are very dry
4) Mask of the non-lens portion of the tail light assembly
5) Spray the tail lenses with the tint spray.
5a) Only do 2 or 3 coats, and wetsand IN BETWEEN the coats, and NOT after the last coat. (this is to ensure that you get little or no orange peel effect on your tint-job.)
6) allow them to dry for about an hour (if you don't do it in the heat/sun)
6a) if you're outside while doing this and it's VERY warm out (70*F +) and it is sunny, you might only need to wait about 15-20 minutes.
7) When they are dry, return them to the car.
8) all done!

No, you can't just take your tails apart and put them back together, they are not the same. You would have to put it on the outside. I would definately remove them if you are going to tint them, I am not sure if any local shops would do it for you or not...so you would have to check around.

you really don't need shops to do it. I just posted a how-to. (scroll up)
If you can't work a spray paint can, then you have bigger issues than car modding.

Im not planning on doing this but i've always wondered and since it came up i thought i would ask. What is wet sanding exactly?

I sanded mine in the beginning. Washed it off then wet sanded it then washed it off again. Then you add as many coats of vht nightshade that you want. The more, the darker. Then I put clear coat on mine. Different people do it different ways, mine came out fine. I have a pic in my cardomain if you want to look.

You can smoke your tail lights or tint them on any color of car and they will still look way good.

Just spray tint them its mad easy.
derek_ski99
03-25-2006, 02:44 PM
yeah and mad permanent. get the lamin-x, it looks better, completely even and they are warrantied for 10 years...and if you get tired of the tints or get pulled over for them, you can always just remove them.
They dont make exact sizes for our cars. I just measured my head lights and tail lights and they can make you a bulk size to match. dont get too specific, just call and ask them for like 5" by 30" or whatever...i cant remember how big the measurements i took were.
By the way, the people there are very nice. gave me a discount and free priority mail shipping.

oh and with your extra that you will have left over, you can do the third brake light
12"x27" for the tails
7"x32" for the headlights
You have to call them and ask them to make them these sizes. Say that another guy (me) with an alero did this in optic blue and smoked for $100 including shipping and see if they do the same for you.

not to be a di** but use the search function, the topic has been discussed millions of times on here but ill save you the trouble, pm member anderbra, and i think member wrightie just started makin some, but those two are the only places to aftermarket tails for our cars, but they are spendy since a lot of time and work goes into them. i know anderbra has a website but a search should turn it up. Imo it is a huge waste of money, the stock tails or tinted ones look best, spend the cash on something else, but to each their own.

^^^^ i totally agree, they run for way to much money.... tinting the tails looks better in my mind...

Well im deffinitly liking the auto vent shade spary on stuff for my tails. But what are the long term effects of this to the tails? Does it ever chip off or fade? Im thinkin if it does you can just do it again but im just wondering.

permanent, will chip off if scratched like any paint and unless you are a decent painter it will probably be somewhat uneven....thats why i keep saying to just go the lamin-x route
