So my uncle keeps bashing me on why im putting more money into my alero... he's challenged me to a lil bit of a race with his daily driver up at Natural Bridge speedway in VA. All legal... Just curious if im going to beat him.
Me = 2001 Alero GL 2.4L DOHC w/ Injen WAI / Custom Cat-back 2.25" / Dynomax Muffler / High Flow Cat / Pace Setter Header / KYB Struts / Brand New Tires / Intrax Springs / Speedbuilt Strut bars / 47,000 miles on motor
Him = 1995 Lincoln Continental STOCK w/ 4.6L v8/ 150,000 miles on motor
Have i lost my $10 we're betting or ya think I got a shot? lol

found on a web site that a stock lincoln continental does a 1/4 mile in 15.9s

the continentals weigh about 3900 pounds, which is 900 more than the alero. If that 4.6L engine is the same as in the mustangs, then you'll be dead even down the whole strip. Actually, I'd give him probably a half second faster than the Alero...it'll be close. be sure to post slips when you run!

The continental has the 32v DOHC 4.6, not the nasty SOHC oil-burning special. They're definitely quick for the size, but it's still a heavy overgrown taurus. My dad had two of them (a '97 and a '00)

Close race, but you'll beat him.

Damn, you've got to be sh*tting me! I would have guessed 17's for that monster!
Is it exaclty the same as in the mustang or has it been detuned for old men?

that may help the mph, but the ET will hurt a little.

yeah, pull the spare out, the back seat bottom, and the passenger seat. all that will take you maybe 30 minutes.

You do know that it's the old Cobra engine or the Mach1 engine. it has like 25 HP up on a Mustang GT

I dunno that doesn't seem fair...they're just talking about racing the cars as they run on the street--a modified alero vs a stock continental--plus his uncle could do the same thing...and would probably lose MORE weight...

we aren't talking about stock tho. his uncle says that he can beat him and he's wasting money in his car. so, technically, the weight reduction would just be another wasteful upgrade that his uncle would not do.

Well a stock 2.4 runs about 16.50, this guy has it worked a bit.
WAI and full exhaust is a big help, and if he runs with a 1/4 tank of gas, dumps out the spare and jack, lets a little bit of air out of the front tires, (maybe down to 30 or 28 PSI, and increase the rear air pressure to about 40 or the max of the tire if it's less than 40, get the car washed first, get all that extra dust and crap off, plus if they are taking pics.
Be sure all the stuff is off, (radio, a/c, heat) and hit the tree good, your set.
Go on the 3rd amber, you'll cut a good r/t. You can be faster, but lose the race before it even starts.
I really guessing that your uncle isn't going to do this anyway

stock 2.4's run low 17's in the quarter, not mid 16's. pretty close, but still enough to lose the race by.
depending on how the tree works at your local track, sometimes gunning it on the second yellow is good. (For sure if .499 is a redlight. ;))

But what I'm saying is that if his uncle shows up at the track and his alero has the interior stripped his uncle would be like "what the hell is this?" They're trying to verify who would beat who if they raced on the street...but they're taking it to the track.
I guess I phrased it wrong in my first post...what I'm concerned about is that his uncle would be pissed and wouldn't agree that it was a fair race
