View Full Version : Hood Ideas Needed...

I am looking for some custom hood ideas for my Alero. I was looking at the cowl hood but I think I want more of a working hood scoop. The only guide lines are that it has to be metel and it has to be able to come off a different car and weld into place on the Alero hood. Other then that its wide open.

I don't think I understand the "come off another car" part. The only hood your going to get to fit is an Alero hood. GA nad Malibu hoods are different around the headlights.
You could do a custom hood. Get a cowl hood but cut open the fornt of the cowl a bit kinda like my bro-in-law's Mustang

yah i meant cut it off a different cars hood. I can get the cowl for 180.00 and weld it in place but some of you guys have that already. I was thinking more on the line of ideas what have not been tried yet because someone is unsure how it will turn out.
I like the idea of cutting the cowl but I am limited by time. I have 12 hours to cut and weld in place the new part.

This is a hood piece from extreme dimensions. It's called the Super Sport adn would probably look pretty good on an Alero.

They only problem with this hood is its all fiberglass. I def don't have time to do this myself. If I started now I would be working on it till the fall using all my free time. That hood is bad @$$ though

somebody on here already did a hood that way.they used a stock hod and fiberglassed the scoops from another hood onto it.

really? The problem I can see from doing it that way would be the fiberglass cracking or even at higher speeds coming right off if they are working hood scoops. No matter how its done its going to be a lot of work and I would prob end up just getting it made at a custom shop. I called out and was given a price of around 1500.00 + parts. I want the hood scoops for when I have my turbo setup just to keep things cool. I should have pics of this done in the fall/winter.

With a turbo setup it's going to get real hot under the hood an stay hot for a long time. Instead of a scoop that takes in air, try a vent or maybe an "extractor" style hood to let the hot air out, that way when the car isn't moving, it'll still let the air out. When I get a new hood I'll be cutting vents into it not directly above the turbo but two on each side...incase it rains, water dripping on cast iron that's over 1000°F isn't the best thing that could happen.

Thats why I have working Z3 fenders in place right now. Air comes in and right back out taking all the hot air with it.

i'm shooting more along the lines of a 4runner hood scoop. i just like the style. or maybe the hood scoop from like a 98 mustang where it goes down in the hood. not sure. good luck.

IMO the last one that 2fst4u just posted would like the best on an alero. I would probably never buy a new hood for my car unless it was something like that style.

I think the mustang style would look good, you obviously would want to round out the lines a bit to flow better with our cars than the somewhat boxy 'stang. The toyota one doesn't look half bad either.

Wow, I'd say the hood on the avenger or the photoshopped alero look the best for RAM air.

05-31-2006, 02:25 PM
Damn, they all look good! I've always wanted a RAM air hood for my Alero, but when I talked to a shop about it they said it would cost at least 400-500 bucks, and I just can't afford to blow that on my daily driver

that cobra hood was one of my first photoshops, i did that back in 01 or early 02. i still think it looks damn good. me and another member paid the old owner of aleroboard to make them for us, and to make a mold so that they could be made for everyone, but he took our money and ran.
But yeah, I think the cobra hood would look good. Or even the stock 96 cobra hoods with nostrils would look pretty tight.

IMHO, the stock hood flows better than any other hoods...ram are may look good if it is done tastefully enough. But I think that stock hood with slots, or custouts, or something would look the best. I think that the Alero is not a car that needs lots of stuff to really stand out, it detracts from the look of the overall car. (IE. Scoops, big wings, 20's, etc.)

Eh, I've never been a fan of slots/vents in hoods. Too fast and furious for me...

that would be alot better for sure, but that'd be tons of even more work i'm sure..but the end result would rock i agree

The only one that's actually available for our cars is the cowl hood that's on alerostyle.com.
A member on here makes them, I just forget who, it might be silentalero???
Otherwise, all the hoods you saw in this thread are one-of-a kind customs or photoshops
