Rusted spot, How to fix it.

Alright guys I finally left the OT section so please help me out here. I noticed on my alero hood, near the passenger side by the headlights in the corner the paint in one area is starting to bubble somewhat. So it probably is starting to rust in that spot. What do I need to get this fixed without having to pay for the entire car to be repainted. If there's another thread started awhile back, just route me over there. I was searching but kinda dozin off her so not really wanting to look. Thanks.

take it to a shop and have them color match the fender. It won't be perfect, but it will be pretty close. Will probably cost a hundred or so do fix.

yea, i highly doubt you have the know how to do it yourself. take it to a GOOD shop.

^^ oops, I think i misread your post. Is the rust on the hood or the fender? Either way, you can't really fix it without making it look like crap unless you bring it to a shop.

take it to a shop, cause if your asking this question, you prolly dont know enough to repaint the hood yourself.

yup..unfortunately there isnt an easy fix for you, unless you know someone who is willing to do some body/paint work for you

Mine is doing the same damn thing. The bottom of the hood right there is all bubbled up. A couple weeks ago a bunch of the paint came off and there's a big bare stripe. Ghetto. I'm going to bitch to GM. And then probly just pay to get the whole hood repainted. It has lots of other chips, too, and I was planning on getting the front bumper cover repainted anyway. A shop shouldn't charge you more than $200 to repaint the whole hood. The hardest part is taking it off the car.

Uhhh... If the shop uses decent paint, you're probably looking at close to $200.00 for just the materials to paint the hood. That is, if you have it stripped, reprimed, repainted, and recleared. I talked to my uncle the other day about repainting my entire car (he owns a body shop) and he said it would likely be around $700 to $800 for all the materials. Plus labor. He said whole-car jobs on newer models are going for around $2000 to $2500 all in. So now I have to decide what I can live with, and just get the nasty parts (hood, rear quarter panels in front of the rear wheels, etc.) done. And I'm going to help, too, so that will cut some of the labor down.

the hood is metal. metal rusts. this condition is accelerated if u drive ur car in the winter when there is salt on the roads. salt causes rust. nothin u can do about it except keep ur car as clean as possible in the winter. gm will laff at u if u complain about it to them.

I'm not sure if all of you know but GM covers our cars for 6 years or 100,000 miles against cosmetic corrosion defects and rust-through corrosion. If you don't believe me look in your owners manual or look here

Rust-through is covered 6 years/100,000 miles. Corrosion is 3 years/36,000 miles. It'll rust through before then at the rate it's going, I just don't want to wait that long to get it fixed.

7-800 in materials? What the hell are they painting it with. I went to PPG, and priced one the new nissan colors, its metallic, with a pearl in the clear, it requires 2 kinds of primers, and enough to do the outside and a full fiberglass interior was only 450.

Fiesty.. Scrape it all of, then sand it with 80 grit. Then when thats done, use a drill, and drill the area of the rust with a 1/2 inch drill bit. (good sharp one)

Once thats all done.

Bet you'll get all the same responses. Unless you have a body shop in your back yard, bring it to a shop.

lol how to fix the whole in my car. good one. thought maybe somebody would tell me how to strip that section and re paint it. I mean itsonl a little bit of it, so i would have to get the whole hood painted for one little section? :unsure:

yes you would. red sun bleaches so it could be matched. so that is why they paint the whole hood.

now if you want to look like marc, scrape it off, sand it till all the rust is gone and mask it off and primer it and you will have silent still.......primer baby................lol
