I bought an L7 from my friend and i had it for about a week. He never told me that i would have to break it in so i just used it like normal...... then i blew it. So my friend said i should be able to take it to this place that would send it back to kicker and get it fixed for $25..... went there and they said they couldn't do it... :wah: :pissed: so now i dunno what to do.... i got a box and a blown L7 just chillin in my room....
i did hook up my old subs tho.. two 10" cerwin vegas  i know they are not that loud but they sound nice.
if you can think of anything i can do with my L7 lemme know..... thanks

everyone (except you) knows that you have to break it in first...its just like a brand new car, you dont go racing right away...poopty deal though, thats a good sub, see if you can find one cheap on ebay

lol...that sucks...well now you know for next time...lousy lesson to learn...i learned that way to with one of my subs last year, forgot about the break in period and cranked it, blew within a week, luckily my shop gave me a new one right away

break in for my subs consist of finding the biggest badest amp i have(or can get my hands on) and turning it all the way up. of course it is much easier for me to take stuff back. lol But if you are skilled and knoweldgable(which I know you are definetly NOT from your posts) you could take it apart and put a new voice coil(most likely the broken part, could be other things but not likely).

it tings when i push on it...... i know it can be fixed but i am not skilled and knowledgable about systems..... where could i take it to get it fixed? if it is as ez as you say shouldn't there be some place that can do it?

hahahaha........ yup ive witnessed this process.

of course when u have 10 extra subs of the same model brand new sitting in the garage it only takes 5 minutes to change the sub and go get the blown one replaced.

Yeah man kicker has been having issues with repairing the subs and amps since last summer. No offense but i think u might be screwed. I had the same problem luckly for my friend was the installer at the store i bought it from and he gave me a new sub and left the blowin sub for the store to deal with and to my knowlede Kicker didnt take it baq still still at the store. U can try to get it fixed might work might not but thats a chance u onna have to take.

you can call kicker direct and have them fix it for you. You will pay shipping and reconing fee. It will be close to 100 bucks. Thats what my L7 15 was to have fixed.

I had one L7 and an Xtant 600W amp, and it was LOUD! as long as you don't push them too hard. I guess kicker is known for blowing... just buy new so that they have a warrenty, and you can just switch them up with new ones if they blow

Yeah, I talked to a guy at Norton's Stereo and he said 1 week with the volume at 25% and then turn the volume up about 10% every next day until you have reached your max volume you're going to be playing it at. Does anyone know if this is correct?

sound_xtreme, You stated that the voice coil would most likely be what blew. By m understanding the break in period is not as much for the voice coil as for the woofer. The rubber surround and glue used to attach the woofer will need to flex before it reaches a proper elasticity. The voice coil will blow from excessive heat from two things. Over powering the sub and distortion from underpowering the sub. I am not sure as to what is concidered a proper break in period. I would imagine that is something that varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. More for warranty issues than anything.

i would generaly say 2 weeks without cliping.... and under 75%power
That should keep em living for a while... but really it depends on the enclosure you have too...
If its sealed then you can push it a lil more because of the increased powerhandleing in a sealed enclosure... however with ported/bandpass etc you get more cone travel with less power... and your more likely to blow spiders/surrounds and coils...
Annother Cause if coils blowing is when your sub (thru massive ammounts of power and excursion) go's non linear... and the voice coil (being hot) welds its self to the basket, or motor structure of the sub...
This has been emproved and reduced in reacent times.. but can still happen, but only really at HIGH power/excursion levels....
