There's a plug on the tranny thet you pull out if fluid comes out your fine if not better add some at least that's how I understand it from my repair manual

under the air box is a red cap on top of the trany to put fluid . There is a plug on the side of the trany (in the same area) take it out and if fluid comes out you are in good shape...If none comes out you need to add....... <_<

You really don't need to check it. Unless you can see a leak or a stain, it's not going anywhere. Change it after 100,000 miles, or 50,000 if you abuse it (race or tow).

I think I probably should check it. I drive the car hard and my transmission has been slipping on its first to second gear shift.
