View Full Version : Optx high beams... anyone?

Has anyone tried these? I have Silverstar 9006's, and I'd like to upgrade the 9005 drl/high beams too... but coughing up another $40.00 for bulbs isn't real appealing. I can get these for $20 a pair.. and I have a store-credit for $10 at Best Buy so they'd only cost me $10.

Okay... I guess I need to rephrase the question...

Anyone found 9006's that are cheap that look similar to the silverstar 9005's?

Thanks!

depends on what wattage you want, but there are plenty here:

9005: The daytime running lights (which are also our high beams) (inner lights)
9006: Regular night-time headlights (outer lights)

I just called the 4 Meijer stores in my area... they carry Silverstars & have them on sale for $10 each right now... the bad news is... they don't have any 9005's or 9006's. :(

Actually you can put the 9005's as your low beams too, with a slight modifacation.

They weren't giving rain checks - it's a discontinued item now.

So... I just went to Autozone and bought a pair of 9005's.

All you have to do to change the bulb is pop out the stock and stick in the new one, right?

Yep, Theres 2 clips that stick out above the headlight assembly, pull those up and pull the lamp assembly out to get at the bulbs. The ones you are going to be changing are covered by a rubber circle, pull that off and then you can access the bulbs. High beams are the inner ones, low beams are the outer ones.

Actually... the inner ones (9005) are dual high/low beams. During the day, they serve as the daytime running lights. They also serve as your high beams.

The outer ones (9006) are your normal night-time headlights.

Be careful not to touch the bulb when you replace them.

If you can't touch the bulb aren't they hard to get in?

Only touch the plastic base of the bulb.. not the bulb itself.. if your doing a light that you need to touch the bulb to put it in like the 3157 parking lights just use a cloth or a few tissues to hold the bulb.. I've heard that bulbs with gas inside them such as the xenons or whatever can explode when they get turned on if you get oil from your hands on them.. never had it happen to me but i dont want to take chances on a 20 dollar light bulb.

actually ur partically correct wiht ur statement.

i think in like 2001 or 2002 they switched the drl's from the highbeams to the lowbeams..... so the lows are actually on all the time.

check it out next time u pass some alero's...... the 2001/2002??? and new models will have the lowbeams on during the day.

Actually... I think I'm 100% right. But if someone's lights work differently from what I've listed below... I'll stand corrected.

My Alero is a 2001.... and the lights work this way:

The DRL's are the inner lights on the low-beam setting.
Night time are the outer lights. (or with the t.s. stalk switch set on)
High beams are the inner lights on the high-beam setting.

(The inner bulbs are dual filament, and the outers are single.)

P.S. The Sylvania websites shows the same bulbs for ALL years of Alero.

Aa I said... If someone has that lighting.... I stand corrected.

Funny... I guess a lot of people might find it interesting as to why children behave the way you do, Sweet.

Some might say that the behavior, and other signs like feeling the need to put giant Oldsmobile logo stickers on the side of their car... shows that they are insecure in the size of their manhood.

Others might say it's just frustration with being a larda$$ who doesn't get laid.... being upset that God dealt you such a bad hand.

Then there's some who might deduce from your spelling, language, etc.... that it's just plain ignorance.

But frankly...since there are millions of fat, frustrated, under-endowed little boys out there like you.... I don't feel the need to analyse the psychoses of each one.

So rant on, dude. ;)

I know there must be a thread around here somewhere...how to turn off the DRLs but still have the others turn on at night.

Thanks

ya Sweet i also noticed the change in the drl's with the newer aleros, i just thought that people went and turned there knob to turn on there lights outa habit form another car they drive, didn't know they did change that.

alerosport.com
03-09-2004, 03:08 PM
oh and there is a way to have ur DRL's off durring the day and ur low beems come on durring the night, you either have to do some splicing.. and theres a thred on that at grandamgt.com i know of or you can change something under the hood, in a relay... may be other ways also....

03-09-2004, 06:42 PM
yea, i bought a kit a long time ago. mine has lots of options but it totally kills the DRL's.
