I just picked up some new wheels that are 5x114.3 with a 35mm offset and am trying to decide on tires. What does everyone recommend with this setup? 235/40/18 or 225/40/18?

Thanks

225/40/18 is good for not messing with your speedometer that much.

I am running 225/40/18, but I do wish I had the 235's

The speedo difference is either -.28% with the 225 or +.97% with the 235 so it is pretty minor. I was more concerned with whether or not it would rub with the wider tires, but the tire width difference is only 1/4" from the 225 to the 235.

if the wheel itelf dosn't rub, then you should be fine. for handling purposes, I would suggest the 235's then.

Sounds good. I test fit the wheel and there is plenty of room.

Just in case anyone is interested here is a preview. It was not sitting on the hub securely since I did not put any bolts on but you get the idea.

This is what I am running on my Intrigue (daily driver) and these are the best tires I have ever owned (trust me I have owned a few sets)

Michelin Pilot XGT Z4
225/40ZR/18/95W M+S

I have ran these tires for 3 years... Do yourself a favor and don't skimp and buy cheap tires like Wanli, Aurora, Cooper, Yokohama, Nitto etc. Nice rims with Cheap tires is pointless.

I can post pics of the tread and sidewall if you want more info.

Oldsman I have the same size as you do because our rims are what GM chose for our wheels because they are from GM show vehicles. I think GM might know a little bit about tires too.

I have heard some great things about Michelins. Markup is not very high on them either so tire places wont usually try to sell them to you.

I got a hell of a deal on Yokohama AVS ES100s so it looks like I will be going with those unless I find somethign terribly wrong about them.

They are cool looking, but I don't know if they are going to sit right. I tries to put on a set of rims with a 35 offset and they wobbled like crazy

Well I sure hope there wont be problems with them. I did get the hubcentric rings. BTW, I am also doing a total overhaul and installing KYB AGX struts, eibach pro-kit springs, new strut mounts and I have the SSBC 12" brake kit in the garage but I may wait until my current brakes are worn out a bit more to install. I just replaced both front hubs about a month ago as well.

i recommend the kumho 711s from tire rack, great tire and as cheap as they are you can afford to go through them quickly, i think last time mine for a little over $70 a tire with shipping.......
