...I tried to search for this, but came up with nothing...hopefully it hasnt been done before.

Just list your year, engine, mileage, and any major problems youve had along the way. If no problems, list the mileage anyway..

I'll start it off,

2001, 3400 V-6, 36,000miles

faulty oil sending unit at around 20K, small water leak into drivers side back seat floor. Bad front rotors, and now....intake gasket leak.

2000 3.4V6
15,000 - EGR valve "stuck open"
20,000 - Front pads, all rotors turned
38,000 - Right front hub
45,000 - Front pads and rotors
58,000 - Intake Gasket, new wires and coil
67,000 - Needs: left front hub, front rotors, all pads, repaint hood
Those are miles, and are approximate, I don't exactly remember

2003, V-6 with 32,000 miles

no problems so far, for me at least, but I purchased it 23000 on it!

1999 V6

36k Standard 3400 gasket leak
41k Tie rod snaps, thus causing me to spin off road and destroy all the right front suspension.
42k Need new front rotors and pads, not immediately, but I need them within the next couple of months.

Now the question is, power slot rotors or powerstop cross drilled rotors?

I had the gasket leak thing too I think this needs to be investigated and we deserve a refund for this bullpoop. GM is about a half a second away from me seeking into a class action lawsuit. There is a tsp on this but not a recall......I think thats bullpoop. Once again we find GM lacks responsibility and quality......However I love my car and the community associated with it because thats what it is,.......MY CAR

2000 3.4L

26715KM steering gear replaced (under warrenty)
33049KM front pads replaced, machined rotors
45889KM intake leak (Goodwill)
49000KM replace front rotors and pads, new parking brake control.

and i just turned 50,000Km, switching to synthetic!

2000 2.4L

about 39000 miles: washer fluid gasket/grommet disintegrated when the battery was changed (it was apparently the wrong size...)
about 42000 miles: rear window regulator breaks

and at slow speeds AND gentle braking, the left front makes a whistle.

currently approaching 44000 miles, and no mechanical issues under the hood so far.

2001 GLS 2.4L

4 miles - right headlight bulb kept blowing out (literally shattering).
Dealership replaced wiring after four tries.

4 miles - right heater duct didn't work (no hole was made in the duct).
Dealership replaced.

5000 miles - Heater control box replaced (stopped working).

11,000 miles - right rear speaker blown
dealership replaced

11,500 miles - right rear speaker blown again
dealership replaced (even after saying it wasn't blown, but it was)

11,600 miles - yet again right rear speaker blown
yet again the dealership said it wasn't blown
and after arguing for about an hour, I went to
an audio shop and they said it was blown and I
had the wiring and both rear speakers replaced
(2 - Alpine Type R 6" x 9") no problems since

23,000 miles - head unit goes bad
dealership said there was nothing wrong with it (except the
fact it didn't work at all) and after calling GM, they
finally replaced it with one that wouldn't play cd's
so they replaced it again with one that you couldn't read the
display panel, and after they replaced that one ,I replaced it
with an Alpine CDA - 7894 and no problems since

Going on 69,000 miles - no other problems except cosmetic damages along the way

anyway

99 2.4L
got it with 46000 on it in '02
now has 89000  (i travel a lot  )

no real problems :knockonwood:

replaced the front and rear brakes once since i've had it, fronts need changed soon

the guage cluster used to cut out when i first got it, but it stopped doing that

the tranny would slip and "trac off" light would come on in winter when i'd gun it up a hill without warming it up first

um, the front driver's side wheel fell off, but that was due to overtightening of the lugs on the mechanics end; snapped the bolts. with that came new strut, brake assembly, rotor, fender, side skirt, and i think that's it...

bought my car in april 2002 36k.....

2 years later im on about 57k i believe.

not 1 problem.

and i dont think people should list brakes as problems. yes the stock brakes suck....... but something like that is normal wear and tear on a vechical. not a problem

I consider it a problem when it happens at 16K and is fixed under warranty.

2001 2.4 I had the a/c-heater fixed under warranty..would only work on high. I had the hazard switch replaced under a recall last September. I don't remember the mileage but I do have 60,600m now. No other problems that I can remember.

2002 v6, bought it almost exactly one year ago with 24k on it, now at 38k. only problem I have is my power windows are kinda screwy, the driver side one is almost off the track and the passenger side scrapes on the way up. big ol' nasty scratch in the glass now... driver side started in january, passenger side in february.

Major stuff:
1. Intake gasket leak (around 55,000 mi)
2. Water pump
3. Alternator
4. Electrical problem (wires were grounding out against the Cat Conv)
5. Cat Conv replaced (around 83,000 mi)
6. Transmission Slipping (around 88,000 mi)
7. Wheel Bearing about to go out.

Minor Stuff:

99 2.4 Only 45,000 miles

I have had the car for almost 2 years, it had 17,000 miles on it when I bought it.

25,000 - all rotors and brake pads replaced

Only other problem is the turn signal problem.

Woa. You folks seem to be having a string of bad luck... My car has 36,000 miles on it and only one problem. My domelight. Ever since I changed the bulb it won't come on all the time. when I open the doors, keyless unlock or just go to turn it on in the car while driving it won't always turn on without giving it a little tap. but that's my fault. I say, perform more preventive maintenance on your vehicles! Know what could go wrong before it does go wrong. Can't stress that enough.

I change the oil every 3,000 miles. My boyfriend is a mechanical engineer, and his dad is a mechanic. I have one of them look under the hood about once a month, or whenever I hear a funny noise or anything feels different. You really can't prevent rotors or wheel bearings from going. I know when they are getting to needing to be replaced, so I haven't had any problems. I also caught "the leak" before I lost any noticeable oil or coolant.

2001 V6 GL Coupe. 43k miles (bought new)

All fixed under warranty. (most were TSB's)

1. Standard gasket leak (leak also wrecked the starter motor which was replaced)
2. Blower motor card
3. Scratches on drivers side window
4. Loose rear window molding.
5. Front brakes - rotors turned, pads replaced
6. Front bushings replaced due to noise
7. Hazard light switch replaced.

Not sure on the mileage on these. A couple other minor items were fixed as I recall (under warranty)

42000 security system prevented car from starting, needed replacing (warranty)
45000 power steering pump toast (warranty)
46-55000 replaced brake pads
53000-driver window regulator gone, caused glass to drop into window .. dealer took 3 days to get me into the place, then kept my car for a week because they said they couldnt get the part, where then i went in and raised hell and the tech came over and "mysteriously" found the part sitting around (warranty)
58000- recall on hazard carrier (warranty)
58000-lower intake manifold gasket leak again (warranty)
58000-right outer tie rod end replaced (warranty)
58000-right front wheel speed sensor open, right front hub assembly replaced (warranty)

i know i had some more stuff done in the 46000-55000 range but i cant remember

2001 Alero V6
90,000 miles
Everything stock with the exception of K&N air Filter.
Nothing major

about 45k - new front rotors, pads (back was hardly worn .... hmmm)
65k - blower motor resistor. (had an extended warrenty to 70k) While it was in they "said" they found a major coolant leak but probably just a ploy to rip the warranty company off.

Rotors warped again in front and I don't consider myself a constant breaker. LOT's of highway driving! I have seen my mileage drop off to about 23-24 mpg. It was anywhere from 27-28mpg. I do keep track of my mpg in a book. I will try and figure out where I lost the mileage and when. I did replace the spark plugs at about 50k miles with titanium tiped ones. Didn't help or hurt mileage. May need to replce those again.....

I bought my 1999 Alero in 2002 with 35,000 miles. Here is the list of problems, thus far:

45,000 miles - Cylinder number 3 misfired 500,000 times, so replaced all spark plugs and wires..still has not solved the problem
47,000 miles - Replaced Right HUB Sensor
53,000 miles - Replaced Driver's Side Tailight
55,000 miles - Replaced Rear Rotors and Pads
58,000 miles - Need to Replace Front Rotors and Pads, Cruise Control Switch is not working, Service Vehicle Light is Coming on due to ALC does not work..need to get it replaced. I actually like my Automatic Light Control..although I have read many posts where people could do without it. Need to replace I think the Left HUB Sensor, Low Trac Light comes on when backing up.

I would get rid of her, but I love her too much to do that. My dad says I need to cut the sunroof off and then replace everything else.

2002 Coupe with 2.2 ecotec

100 km, noticed misaligned roof lining. There was a gap of about 1 inch between the roof and the liner. Dealer fixed ofcourse with trying to give me a run around. He said that the guys that put in the alarm did it.

1000 km, doors becomed misaligned. They would not even close. Dealer fixed it, but the moron mechanic forgot to put in one part back it. They had to call be back in.

2000 km, doors misaligned again, dealer fixed again, this time all the part were put in, and they are good so far.

6000 km, rotors gone. Dealers excuse is that my pads are almost worn out. I go home check the pads they are almost still new. Go back bitch a bit and they machined the rotors.

10,000 km, rotors gone again. I go back to the dealer and they replaced the rotors.

13,000 km, security light comes on and stays on for a bit then disapears. I thing it is related to my compustart alarm/starter/pager. They had to put in some sort of a GM passlock interface so that the alarm could operate properly. I think that maybe just maybe that part is going.

20,000 km, rotors gone again. Got some from RSM racing (slotted). Was impresed at first, looked god, and braked pretty good, did not last to long.

45,000 km, replaced the rotors with Canadia tire The cheap kind.

59,000 km, front hub gone, dealer replaced the wrong side, I went back and they replaced the other side. My warrantly expires at 60,000 so I got really lucky. At first they would not hear about it.

60,000 km, replaced rotors with Canadian tire (heavy duty).

75,000 km, traction light, ABS light, and trac off light comes off. Turns out that sensor in the hub is no good. Need to replace the whole unit 7 bills gone.

currently 80,000 km, needed items:
-rotors
-rust showing up on the window panes. It is the kind that goes from inside out??? I though GM has good steel?
-rust showing up under the hood.
-oil filter cup is worn out because when they replace the oil they torque it to much and it gets worn out.
-alarm does not work???, frequent security light. I bet that they are somehow related.
-passenger speaker sometimes works, sometimes it does not. I have a Alpine unit pretty good one, and I find it hard to believe that this would be causing this problem. I use al the proper harnesses to intergrate this stereo.

I really think I got a lemon. I am looking around for a 2001 or 2002 mustang GT convertible or not because this car has been nothing but trouble. I love the way it looks, I love the way it handles, but I am giving up the fight. NO MORE GM for ME.

...Sorry guys.

2001 Alero 2.4L -- 116,178 miles. Bought brand new in May 2001. No engine mechanical problems. Well, it eats a quart of oil every 3,000 since first oil change at 3,000. Switched to Mobil 1. Change the oil every 6,000, filter every 3,000. Clutch still original(knock on wood). Rear brakes still original.

30,000 Steering developed the "noise" fluid disappearing, changed out the fluid with STP power steering fluid. Hasn't lost a drop since and once a year I change out the fluid.
60,000 first set of brake pads
75,000 first set of plugs
90,000 left front hub went out,
100,000 the ignition cylinder security feature that senses the key went out. No start condition. You have to wait 10 minutes with key on to bypass.
103,000 the ABS and TRAC OFF light came on when backing up. Right front Wheel sensor, fixed itself. Third set of tires. Michelin HydroEdge-should last rest of the life of car(85,000 mile warranty)

has aftermarket muffler, 62mm TB from RSM, B&M shifter, WAI from AEM, purchased from APOC(POS, Rubber elbow rotted out after 10,000 miles(4 months)) purchased a Samco replacement , front and soon rear STB from RSM.

Please tell me you don't still have the stock rotors on your car. If so, I find that very strange. I can't even understand how your stock pads lasted until 60,000  I only got 16k out of my stock rotors and pads..

csealy_31

Nah, the stock rotors are crap and this is the second set of rotors. The next set is going be slotted to help get the hot gases out from between the pads and rotor. The rotors now are warped a little. But they don't seem to make that much of a difference until you get up to about 75. Any faster and the problem goes away. any slower and you don't notice. So any faster than 75 and I use the engine to slow down if I can. I drive 75 miles one way to work and it's mostly I-95. Except for the stop and go I don't use my brakes very much especially since I have the manual. Believe me I was shocked. Every time I rotate my tires I check the brakes. I had to put the second set of pads on at 110,000. The first set of rotors did last until the second pad change. However they did shake pretty bad. I'm waiting for my calipers to give out with all the punishment the rotors and myself have put them through.

I don't post here often, but I check the boards every now and then. Reading this makes me think I should put my Alero up forsale, and I'm being serious.

2001 3.4 w/ 46k miles

22k miles--- hazard switch replaced under warranty
23k miles--- driver window needed new motor, replaced under warranty
30k miles--- front pads and rotors warped, replaced under warranty
40k miles--- front rotors are warped again, still haven't done anything about it
42k miles--- low coolant light came on. Wife stopped by the dealer and the dealer topped it off, but after reading here it sounds like I might have the infamous gasket leak you guys are talking about.
45k miles--- SES light is on, autzone scanner says "P0442 Evap Emissions Control Leak". It's not the gas cap and I haven't had time to look any further into it.

I bought this car only because I got what I thought was a terrific deal. I bought it in December of '02 w/ 18k miles on it for $10,500, which I guess still isn't a bad deal, but if I'm going to have all these problems I'm not certain I want to hang on to it especially seeing as though I no longer have a warranty.

i bought my 2000 v6 last may with 38,000m on it. the only real problem i had so far was replacing the left outer tie rod at 49,000m. the brake pads and rotors do need replaced though. they are still the stock ones. the guy at the shop said he could turn the rotors but then they would be too thin to meet specs which tells me that they have been turned a couple times already. after market here i come. oh and recently when i drive the car for the first time each time or after it sitting for a while i hear a slight screech coming the left front wheel, i think its just my brake sensor telling me "i need replaced", any other ideas? i currently have like 51,000m on it.

There is a tsp on this but not a recall......I think thats bullpoop. Once again we find GM lacks responsibility and quality......However I love my car and the community associated with it because thats what it is,.......MY CAR

Seems the LIMG gasket is a killer on all GM cars... Plus DEXCOOL isnt cool.

I bought my car with 53K on it under a year ago. I drive 50 miles one way to work.

Currently it has 85K on her, 10K on the AMS oil I put in her. Will be doing the filter/quart change this weekend.

Replaced front pads @55K
Replaced air filter with Fram Air Hog

Thinking about new plugs, wires, 02 sensor. I need to squeeze some more mileage out of her.

Had the car for 3½ years now. Bought it with 185k km on the meter, or 296k miles if you want. Since then I have changed the front hubs, mounted an electrical heater for preheating the engine in the cold Swedish winters and just done normal service. Until now at 377k miles. I have just changed the springs and the front strut bearing assembly, one spindle joint and the battery. I will also need to change the brushes in the generator as it have stopped charging. Unfortunately it seems like hopeless to get new brushes. My mitchell repair's manual says the generator can not be repaired, just swapped and it annoys me to have to buy a new one for 270$ instead of some brushes for 20$. I'd rather spend the extra 250 on guitars...
Oh yes, I need to change the fan resistor and the buttons for the cruise, but that's all I think.

Any objection to me adding the fact if you have a 2 door and electric drivers seat and EVER attempt to get into the back seat through that door and are not a midget. Then replacing that seat is a given since if you didn't notice that when you bought the car well... You're probably a 3 toed sloth who thought, "damn that's easy..."
