I hate DRL's so I was determined to find out how to disable them. Take Relay 22 under the hood and snip pin 78 not 78a just 78 and plug it back in. No more DRL, the ARM module doesn't care about seeing power go to the high beams all it cares about is see power and ground from the relay.

electrical tape works much easier...

NFS

Here's the thing, The ARM module sends out a signal to to R22 provides low power to the high beams in the daytime. When pin 87 is snipped it cuts power on that circuit. Your low beam and high beam will still work.

the tape just cuts off the signal

NFS

Just snip it and plug it back in

NO it don't..................Brent did mine and now my lights are fucked up. Not brent's fault but more the 99 fault. it worked for awhile but now the high beams are dim as shit and on with the lows and a SVS light also. It's just fucked up.

you should be able to just unplug the DRL resistor to get them to go off.

scott i dont think its the fact that i got rid of your DRL's thats effecting your high beams.

cutting off the drl's the way i do them buy slipping just a piece of electrical tape between the contact in the DRL relay in no way should make a difference in your highbeams.

putting the tape between the contacts only results in the relay not switching "on" when it gets the signal from the computer to turn the DRL's on.

you have another issue with your high beams and its not from getting rid of your drl's.

my car is a 99 as well and ive never had an issue with my high beams after i killed my DRL's

Oldsman
06-02-2007, 07:42 PM
i have replaced bulbs and not the cause. never had an issue til you did the drl bypass. like i said i am not blaming you.

in the daytime my drl's are on but if i start it up in the garage and the lights come on it throws a SVS and then the DRL's go out. my high beams are way dim and the low beam on the driver side also. also highs and lows are on when the lights come on also.

i really need it to get scanned. i have even replaced relays and still same issue.

like i said never had an issue before but now i do right after it was done. so something happened.

Did you check the headlight grounds for that issue? I just recently had to clean up the splice-pack on my drivers side fender because my turn signal went all crazy.

I Got A 2001 Alero And I've Been Meaning To Do This Simple Mod, But I Can't Find Relay 22 Under The Hood, I Need Some Help. Can Anyone Help Me Out? Im Tried Of The Low Yellow Drl's.

To All Looking At This Thread Do Not Take The Relay Out And Snip The Pin, Because When You Find Out That When There Is No Light That The Car Will Throw The Svs Light You Will Be Pissed. I Tried This Mod This Past Weekend And Notice That With The Presence Of Light It Worked Fine, But Once It Got Night And I Tried Again (just A Hunch) The Svs Light Came On. Thank God I Bent Mine So I Could Put It Back.

Yeah I did mine on the 2000 2.4L so yeah I should have mentioned that could be different on different years. Pimp you said you took the relay out completely and it didn't throw the light on at all? I think it would throw the svs light when that relay is found missing, but if not I may try that if you are sure it works. Go a pic?

Yeah but you have a different Year. When I did mine I didn't realize it until it got dark. When it tried to switch it threw the light on immediately, but when I shined the flashlight on the sensor it wouldn't do it.

I'm not sure if 99's are the same as 2004 but I have HID's in low beam and all that I did was remove the relay completely. No problems or codes.

disables drl perfectly on a 99, no codes anytime, auto lamps still work.

How about just taking the bulbs out?... or using blown bulbs?... or sniping the +wire at the bulb socket itself?

So if you take the bulbs out what are you gonna use at night ? A flashlight ?
I am going to try the relay removing method on my 2000 today and see if it throws the SVS light.

This is what I did to disable my DRL's and it works flawlessly. DRL's do not come on, auto lights work as advertised...I think my car looks prettier with just the amber parks lit up. I have an '03 tho, so I can't speak to the earlier models that have the DRL's reversed. I also did the same thing for my GF's G6, and my buddies crappy Saturn with no issues.

If you take out the bulbs of the day running lights, the headlights don't work anymore? So use your GD flashlight!

Reviving this to make sur eI understand completley.

00 2.4L where the DRL are the highs. Electrical tape over the 87 pin will not throw SVS code and will stop DRL's but allow auto headlight function. Yes?

robalero
05-21-2011, 07:33 PM
even if you pull the relay it will still work ( but one high beam bulb won't work and will throw the svs code )

and its pin 87b that you want to cover

the_weber
05-21-2011, 09:33 PM
So cover the pin and BAM no DRL or SVS code? lol I tried this earlier by pulling the relay but go the SVS and high beams quit wokring all together so I had to put it back in

just killed mine 30 mins ago, tape over the pin and works flawlessly

thanks will do tonight when I leave work. Does this work on just about every vehicle or just ours (obviously different relays and pins but the basic idea of it) because I sell HID's here in alaska and trying to sell them a DRL disable kit or telling them to just deal with the SVS code is kinda a pain in the ass. Much easier just to do this little mod.

robalero
05-22-2011, 08:53 AM
not all vehicles will throw a code, each one is different for an example my buddy has a 2011 ranger and has a hid kit with the drl harness. he installed them originally in his 08 g5 and they worked fine no issue but now he is having issues in his 2011 ranger even with the harness

my 2002 alero didn't throw a code when i disabled drls
