OK my buddy is going to hook me up with a trolley horn.
What kind of air tank do I need.
I came across a portable one on Summit Racing. No compressor, but it had a guage and an air hose for filling tires. It was one of those portable jobs. I liked the price (5 gallon tank was only $31.99) but I wanna do it right. I also wanna do it so it can be removed when it's time to go to the track;)
I don't really see myself putting air ride in the car, just want a tank to run the horn, and without a compressor, no elctrical to hook up, but something tells me that's not a good thing.
My buddy says a 3 gallon tank will be enough to power the horn :yahoo:
The horn will go inside the pass. side fender behind the headlight, ton of room:cool:

your gonna hvae to run an airline from the trunk to the fender then...... thats gonna require drilling some holes for the airline.
your gonna need a valve which will require wiring it up to a 12v source and then a some sort of trigger or button to activate opening and closing the valve.
you can get any kind of tank but i dont think its gonna last you to long if you dont hook a compressor to the tank to constantly keep it filled.
the "loudness" of the horn comes from the amount of air and the rate at which the air moves threw the horn so every time you hit it its gonna be more and more quiet.

OK that's cool. I can handle the drilling and the hookup and such, but the only compressors I see are 120v rated, perfect for the house, but not the car. I'm gonna look some more

OK I see a compressor on there I like, and over at air ride I see the tank that I like. Thinking about a 2 or 3 gallon tank.
Now the hook up. According to air ride (this was a tankless system) I would hook one wire on the compressor up to a power supply and the other goes to a switch, which the other side it hooked to a ground. Run an air line from the tank to the horn, and I'm good to go.
Am I right?
(of courseI know that I have to hook the air line up to the tank and the air line to the horn)

if its small like a mini airhorn.. then it prolly uses a mini compressor and don't need a tank. If its like marc's or my train horn .. then those needs a bigger air tank and big compressor. Ya got a pic the horn?

No I don't but I'm going to ask my buddy to get it for me, then I'll post pics.
Whatever I need, will be worth it :naughty:
Plus the weight of these compressors is much less than I thought, might be able to do the entire setup for under 20 lbs :yahoo:
Most likely it's a decent size, it's off a public transit trolley and they are not allow to sound them on the city streets, only in tunnels :naughty:

:naughty: Just got off the phone with my buddy. He told he he's going to try to get the horn tomorrow, maybe 2 (one for the Delta).
The horn is all aluminum, about 18 inch long, and they run about 90 psi thru it at the shop. Just to wake up all the neighbors of the yard :naughty:
Ideas?

the horn i have is from ebay.
which im actually gonna call rick today because i need to upgrade my air setup. its loud but now i want that. "im a block away and i just shiat myself" sound, lol Because i only have 1/8" lines and a smaller solonoid with only 120psi....the ideal is 3/8" lines with 150psi with a nice big solonoid.
that plus those horns on ebay, their compressor sucks dink. After 3--4 times refilling it the compressor overheats and shuts itself off. plus the fuse they gave me is crap. I had to upgrade all their wiring and fuse so i would only recommend their horns, not the compressor setup

So I need the horn, compressor, wiring, switch, air tank, and soilnoid.
Where would the soilniod go? on the tank, compressor, or horn itself?
