Manual tranny won't reverse

I'm curious if anyone else has had the problem stated in the title. My manual tranny will not reverse. I'm pretty sure I know what is wrong, but I would like some opinions to see if I am on the right track.

Did you just replace the entire shifter sub assembly or was it able to be fixed?
