Oldsman, your Alero is downright awesome. Every mod is tasteful.
One thing: I noticed you have the older stereo/headunit. Why not upgrade to the '01+ stereo. The newer one has RDS, which displays the name / artist /information for the currently playing song on both the radio and CD. It has other imporvements as well and also matches the Alero's interior better (IMO).
It should be plug and play installation, though you might need a security code from a dealer.
They typically sell on eBay for $40 - $60.
Just a suggestion..
Oldsman
11-04-2006, 09:09 PM
i actually plan on upgrading the stereo to a nice aftermarket one but not as important as other mods

the OSV rims are racing Hart C6's but these ones were one offs done just for the OSV. There is a few manufactures out there that make similar rims that would give you about the same look. can't remember the names. but go to wheelmax and you'll find some.

Those wheels seem to be popular with the "JDM" crowd as they're made in japan (not sure about the OSV ones, maybe they say on them?)
They're also known as the Work Esperio 02R

thanks everyone. installing the shifter was challenging but the end result was worth it.
I must give credit to my dad for the dual/gate idea. i was going to do lightning rods but since you can get a dual/gate for a 4-spd auto i went with that. besides that is the shifter that came in the Hurst/olds and w models w/ autos back in the hay day. Not like seeing a hurst shifter in an Oldsmobile.

how does the shifter work? just like a normal stock shifter or b&m style pulling it back several times to put it in gear and then forward?
Oldsman
05-03-2009, 10:44 AM
how does the shifter work? just like a normal stock shifter or b&m style pulling it back several times to put it in gear and then forward?
it is gated. it works nothing like our normal shifter.
the dual/gate is known as the his/her shifter. and by gated means the following.
on one side it is like a normal shifter. but rather than push a button down to move it out of gear you have to move it sideways and down to go threw the pattern. when you get to netural you can then move it to the right and go down the his side or racing side. on that side you can shift each gear without over shifting. meaning your in 1st gear and you hit the shifter as hard and fast as you can you only go to 2nd gear and then hit it again and oonly move to 3rd and then hit it again and you only go to 4th gear. Now if you take your stock shifter and put it all the way down into 1st gear and then hit shifter forward to the next gear as fast and hard as you can you will end up into neutral.
clutch1
05-03-2009, 12:52 PM
So it's kind of like a manual in the fact that you get to pick shift points on the "his" side?
Sounds like a really cool setup, the car looks great for sure.
knuckleballer32
05-03-2009, 01:02 PM
i see. i have heard that shifting an automatic harms the tranny? is that true?
i would love to do this conversion on my alero. how much did the shifter run you and how much fab did it take?
Oldsman
05-03-2009, 01:57 PM
shifting an auto isn't bad. misshifting or jerking off or shifting when you have no idea really what your doing is bad.
The shifter cost me over $300 and then in just fab work with getting the shifter to work and with the console piece didn't cost me anything but lots of hours of work. Triging out the angle for the cable bracket and making brackets and figuring out how to get the stock cable attched figuring out mount points and height, etc. it took I would say about a good 2 days to engineer it to fit and then another 2 days to fab everything and that isn't the console piece.
This is not a cheap or easy project. If you have the tools and know how to engineer and fab it up it is worth it and then if you have a body guy who is a plastic man this makes it easier also.

i am running the secret cams. no other w-41 parts. I was thinking about the cams but they are not for boost and unless you raise the limiter on your rpm's you can't use the whole power band of the cams.
I could make the brackets but TOO busy with the OSV kit.

you would be correct. a MSD DIS2. It gives you the multi-spark ignition also it gives you adjustablity for retarding the timing for boost. Good question on the chrome.........i haven't looked at it to see about chroming the heatsink but thanks for the idea.

How do you detail your engine to get it looking so clean? I always try to get mine cleaned up but there always seems to be a lot of grease and whatnot. I'm guessing this Alero isn't a daily driver either?
I have been trying to detail my interior because my carpet looks like crap. but the more I use the carpet cleaner, the more it just pulls stains to the surface...(sigh) any suggestions you have or did you just replace the carpet entirely?

the tips are from Corsa. They don't sell the tips seperate. you have to buy the whole exhaust system.

My Alero used to be my daily driver. I have 117k on it. The trick to a clean engine bay is........Engine Gunk it all down.....rinse.I always take it to a car wash and use the no-spot rinse to wash the gunk off. When daily driver I would do this about every 3 months. Now the other trick is after all washed and dried......get a can of CD-2 Engine detailer and spray your motor down. This stuff is the shit........just ask bdyman, redog.
Far as the carpet I replaced my carpet. I still got a few stains because i have kids but carpet cleaner takes it right up.

C2;475698']It's too bad the tips are so tall they stick way past the bottom of the bumper, should have custom ones made.
the reason is they are for 2.5" exhaust. the original tips are only 2" high.
I should have custom ones made........right after you pay for them. Those tips cost me $200 and they only stik below by 1/2" so they stay.
[ion] C2

they only stik below by 1/2"
Seriously? Looks way farther past the bottom of the bumper in this picture, and in person. For custom ones, 2.5" would be fine, if its designed properly it'd fan out so the exhaust flows sure, only 2" high, but the tips are what, like 15" wide in total. No restriction.

let me be as nice as possible........do you think i'm a dumbass and don't know shit about exhaust flow???? What my point was that these tips are designed to attach to 2.5 pipes. the actually OSV was only 2" high and did not attach. Like I said I could have custom tips made but are you Chris going pay for them???? These are the tips I have and they are close and they need to be tighten up due to the coilovers and using stock hangers.
Maybe someday custom cast aluminum tips will be made.

So what was the bullshit about:
the reason is they are for 2.5" exhaust. the original tips are only 2" high.
Why make that comment about the exhaust pipe sizing if you know it doesn't matter since the outlet is wider than it is tall? Sure as hell seems like you're saying since the originals are only 2" high, yours needed to be 2.5" tall instead to accomodate your exhaust. Not saying you're a dumbass, you just can't express what you mean so everyone can understand..
Oldsman
07-01-2009, 07:57 PM
the bullshit or whatever has to do why the tips stick past the bumper. the bumper is design for the 2" high OSV tips the the pipes just blow thru. My tips are mae to attach to 2.5" pipes this is why the tips stick below. that was the point.
I'm sorry I didn't go into great detail in my first comment so that you fully understand what I was trying to say

yes, both the OSV coilovers, and OSV wheels are hard to come by.
There is a set of 19" OSV wheels with the centercaps in the for sale section. They came off of the Intrigue I believe.
