lighted sub box combo question

I want to put some type of lighting in the ports of my sub box. I heard from a friend that if I put neons in the ports they would shatter. (from experience, I guess). Would it be okay to use LEDs or would they bust too? If this is possible how would I wire them to a switch?

LED's will be your best bet for sure

I put a neon in my trunk running off my AMP power wire. Just connect a smaller power wire to where the + goes into the amp (put a switch on it) then connect the - power wire to the amp's ground.
Worked for me so far, it'll work for your LEDs, too.

i have some neons in my trunk hooked up the the trunk light, if you hook it up to the amp, the lights will be on whenever your system is on wasting the life of them not that it would matter lol

It's on a switch, connected to the constant 12v power wire going in and ground ocming out.
The trunk light would work too, lol

yeah if its on a switch it doesnt have to be on during the day, you can turn em off..i actually tried the trunk light, but when the bass hits, it makes it dim in and out so i just took the whole thing out permanatly =/ im workin on getting the neons that flash to the bass..

neons could break... its not impossible... but unlikely.

if you want a FOR SURE won't break, go LED. its solid acrylic w/ a metal diode center. nothing that can break in there.

i would splice into the trunk light, so when you open up the trunk, it would light up, instead of being on all the time, when really 90% of the time you wouldnt even see it..

they last like 100x longer and are MUCH brighter! my car(s) will never see a neon tube again.......EVER!

hahaha.... if i knew how to wire leds, i would definatley go and make my own strips, but i dont know how to..... id rather spend like 35 bucks on like 4 blue neon tubes for my alero and call it a done deal.....

I drive with my back seats down with the amplifiers up front then the subs facing forward. When I "show it off" people normally assume to go to the trunk. Instead I just open the drivers or passenger side door. Keeping the seats down keeps the amps cooler and the bass can travel throughout the entire car making it sound better (at least in my opinion). So I would have to get a switch. I have to get pics up.
