I am wondering if it is possible to disable the passenger side airbag, without having to do major surgery. Is ther a switch, or a simple method? I ask this because my 10 year old son likes to sit up front with Dad. :D

just pull the fuse for the airbags.

theres no switch, you can pull the plug on the passenger side fuse panel(unplug the battery to be safe). itll set the airbag light off though and the drivers side wont work either

^ um...airbags have been proven to be more dangerous to children when they deploy than when there is no airbag at all. Airbags were designed for adults.

or You could push the seat all the way back and make sure the kid is buckled and he'll have no chance of making contact with the airbag.

sorry man, in an alero the safest bet is to keep him in the back for another year or two.

There are plenty of places where you can get a shutoff switch for the passenger airbag, just do a google search.

Well, everyone but one person gave me some decent replies. Never thought it might be illegal to shut them off. I asked this, because I have seen new vehicles with a switch on the dash that you can use the car key to turn off the passenger airbags. Now that I have these replies, I know that there is no such switch in a '99 ALero. Pulling a fuse or disconnecting wires doesn't sound safe to me. Plus, if it sets the airbag light on, then there is no way to know if there is a problem with the driver's airbag.

I guess I will leave all as is. Thanks for the info guys.
