I just put in my intake system and I really don't think it's in right, the only problem is that's the only way it will go, and I'm not really sure if it's right... So I need some help...

as you can see, it's touching the bumper... and it is also hitting the wheel guard thing too...

mine does the same thing, either you cut the tubing to fit or deal with it. I left it, it wasnt a big problem. You should find a piece to replace that acordian tube between the maf and tb, cai wont do much good with that restriction in there.

mine also did the same...watch for tire rubbing against plastic.

I would like some opinions on the acordian shape disrupting the CAI purpose. Is this really true?

Looks good where did you get it and how much???

the accordian piece defeats the purpose of a cai because alot of the power gains in a cai come from smooth curves in the pipe rather than those indents. Think of an exhaust, whay is mandrel bent better than crush bent? no ribs, hence better flow.

The intake is too long becasue of the accordin piece.

Take it out and put a coupler in place of it and you'll be set :thumb:

^^ Yeah, that does look kinda important... I like it the way it is right now.. It will do fine for now... I got the kit from ebay... it was like $25 ish for the kit and like $20 shipping which was kinda odd, but it wasn't too bad... Sounds great!!!!

Ok I'm a little confused! The black accordin piece is not needed so I'll need a coupler (b/c i have the same thing on my 3400). But is that black plug that attaches to the accordin piece thing needed? Can anyone post a link from ebay or something of the thing that is exactly needed. Sorry to post this on ur thread but i thought it was pointless to make a new one.

what you will need to do is cut out 2 holes to fit the IAT sensor, and the black tube you are reffering to. word to the wise...cut smaller to make sure it has a proper seal

i got a wai from doc speed with the heat shield and they sent me a peice to replace the accordian lookin thing. but the holes in it are for the IAT sensor and the other one on top thats circled, i forgot the name off hand. but anyways there are kind of important.

imo the black tube isnt that important, its just a breather line from the head, it doesnt really matter if it routes the excess air back into the intake or into the engine bay.

I'm just going to leave it as it is... It looks fine and runs great!

Lmao, i would never order an intake from ebay, i dont trust em, and this thread is why, cause u cant even plug in the damn black plug!!! im so glad i got mine from doctor speed, and take the damn tubing off, its restricting air flow! do u even care???? and it looks retarded

seriously.... I have a job you know... I don't have a lot of time to really do a whole lot... that's why I'm leaving it the way it is for now... and I really don't have the money just now to get that part replaced.... so calm down already...

And note, this was my first time doing this and I was by myself... I admit it though, I do need to clean out the engine... lol

hehe... yeah, maroon and blue don't match, bud... I'll be getting that piece replaced as soon as I can.. but for now, it's fine... No need to argue...

And I think one day where I have the whole day off, I'm gonna take it all apart again and replace the red cuppling things with blue ones to match my car. lol and what do you all think of painting the pipe blue??? I have some blue chrome paint stuff... I painted something that was chrome with it just to see what it would look like and it looked good.. And is that piece just a piece of piping?

for the breather tube mentioned above, if its vented into the engine bay, should there be some kind of filter for it?

alerored04
10-02-2006, 07:38 PM
why? it vents out of the motor not into it.

In your picture you show a blueish colored car with red couplers and billytheman has a maroon car with blue couplers. So I joked you two should trade.

Ok since everyone likes to say my engine doesnt match, i will take a picture later, and show u all that the blue matches the intake and sparkplug wires, it was the way the sun was hitting it. Look at the caps in the back, u can see they match the intake....... all u need to do is look people. Who the fuck cares what color my engine bay is anyways, like anybody else is gonna see it!? unless i go to shows, but there are PLENTY of cars out there that dont match.

Acutally, it does vent into the motor. Air is drawn through that PCV breather tube, the crankcase, back up the other side and goes through the PCV valve and the gasses get burned by the engine. That's how the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system works.

Yah everything looks fine, maybe you should replace that red filter you got with a k+n filter, k+n better filter and I know you got that filter just because it was red but did you think, im never going to see the filter becuase its in my fender wall ?

my PCV breather came undoneat some point from the crank case, but for the life of me I can't figure out where it hooks up on the crank case. can somone show me where it hooks up, or should i leave it the way it is

You can buy a filter for your Breather Hose at autozone for like 10 bucks and come in three colors. Would recomend a filter for it. Plus adds a nice touch to the engine bay.

cavaliers60
10-04-2006, 02:20 PM
Well that filter came with the kit... I was looking around and I saw some kits that don't go down like that... they basically just go straight... and is up with the engine... is that a good set-up or is this one I have better???? cause it seems like it would be easier to just keep it up with the engine and not run it through next to my bumper...

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about
