question about stereo wiring

ok my gf has a 1996 mercury villager and im trying to install a new cd player in place of the dual deck cassette player from the factory. for some odd reason the 12v wire(orange) thats suppose to be running off the acc/ignition isnt working right. the only one working is the constant wire(brown) anyway to figure out whats going on with this so i dont have to wire it to the battery and drain it. thanks

i mean isnt working right by seems like its not getting any power to it at all. if i hook the power and memory wires from the cd player to the brown wire in the van it will turn on but stay on and it drained her battery to where the van wouldnt crank. and if i put both wires to the orange wire in the van nothing happens at all. i dont know if its a shorted wire or could possibly be something else.

Check your wires for an ignition hot with a test light. Do the same for your memory. You did check all the fuses right?
