The pad under the hood, is it needed?

I'm probably going to keep it, but I'm going to replace it before the next ASS. How much are they usually?

i have a JC Whitney mag right here and on the back there is an Insulation Kit to block heat I don't know if you replace the black cover piece or just cover it.?

i havent had mine since my first paint. water pump went bad and pretty much ruined it before paint so i just took it off before paint and trashed it

$60 bucks for the pad from dealer. If it's just a matter of dirt you can rinse them down if done carefully, then lay flat to dry. I have done this already with no hassles.
I don't think you really need it, the only drawback is a hotter hood.
The whole pad has to be replaced.

Definitely not... if a fire starts under the hood... it's gonna burn baby burn! Trust me on that one :(

has anyone that has taken the pad off noticed it messing the paint or anything up? someone told me before that it keeps temps down and if it's not there, it'll make the paint start chipping or flaking off. i was plannin on takin mine off till i heard that.

I've seen some cars with them off, with no visible damage. Hopefully Oldsman will chime in here, he does not use his.

i havent had mine on since i had my turbo on, the only thing thats a bitch is how dirty it gets, but its simple to take it off then just clean it. hood gets a bit hotter but nothing burning. After you wash it, the hood has a black tint to it, i have pics of what mine looked like rigth after wash, it will so the blackish tinit on it
