Hey everyone. We have a 99 Alero...Bought used in 99, and got extended warrenty on it. We have only had minor issues with the car (GM poor quality), but overall it has been a good car. My question is should we extend the warrenty, or let it run out? Thanks in advance.

If u feel the warrenty extension is fair priced, do it. Especially if you are not planning on modding the car.

I would definately recommend the extended warranty, but watch what you are buying. You want something like GMPP, though expensive, accepted by every single GM dealership nationwide. If you look for some off the wall cheapo deal, you really have no idea where it is accepted. Think of it this way...on vacation, engine blows...covered by your warranty, however not a dealership around that accepts it..now what? Or even better (happened to my brother), you pay $1000 for this warranty, and the company goes bankrupt...I dont get comission for this, but that is the way to go...its not that much more, and its alot more security. if you find something, let me know and how much they are charging, i can check with my future wifey and see how much they really pay for it and see if you're getting a deal or not.

I think that depends on how much mechanical knowledge you have, whether or not you have the right tools, and whether or not you want to be fixing / paying for the repairs on the car yourself.

I turned down the GM extended warranty on my car, it was like $1200 CAD. My thought was if the engine blew or something major, I could replace / repair it myself for that much.

The car in 5 years is only going to be worth around $5000 with it's crappy resale value anyways.
