This is a question about doing P&P on my 3400 TB. A guy asked a question on the GAGT forums on how to P&P a TB and this is the response a guy gave him............

There's nothing to P&P that will increase airflow at all. It's a useless mod. Unless you can bore it out and actually put a larger throttle plate in it don't waste your time.

Is that true? AND this is a very stupid question, but i dont care, haha. WHAT IS PORT AND POLISHING????????

I was reading up on some posts from way back, i came across blackjack who posted about taking that screen in the stock TB. Now i might want to do this, but when i take the screen out, what should i use to take the ridges out of the TB?

i don't honestly know the mechanics of a p&p... but i think removing the screen has been discussed and it doesn't do much. it might in bj's case, but hes much more modified then any of us will ever be.

True, i just thought since that was an older post, maybe he didnt have that stuff done to his car yet

PnP on the intake side won't help much. But the reason pnp is good is that it decreased restriction. Meaning that airflow is improved. Pnp on the exhaust will help greatly because you want good flow.

That's the easies(spell) way for me to xplain.

the "screen" you are talking about is in the MAF sensor, leave it alone. what is done on the stock throttle body is called knife edge. not porting. i smoothed and modified my 62mm t/b for smoother airflow, but there is no volume increase. but the upper manifold has to be ported in the t/b opening to match whatever size over stock t/b you install, i ported mine to 65mm.

P&P doesn't do much alone, but if your planing to do more to the car in the future, it is a good mod to do. It the dead of winter the car will idle a bit faster only when you first start it up.

I removed the srceen in the MAF a while ago, no problems. I'm happy with it

i wouldnt remove the screen in the maf. i have heard people say that it will idle weird without the screen. the p&p tb is more like a knife edge like jabartram said. I have one but cant really tell you how much it helped cause it went on the same time that p&p heads and manifolds went on.

about removing the MAF screen........

The wires that run through the center of the MAF are what detects the air flow. The screen straightens out the air flow before it passes over the sensor wires so that you get a more accurate reading, though only marginally. Removing the MAF screen isn't going to do much of anything for a near-stock car, but if you have seriously high flow (boosted, or MAJOR n/a work) it reduces restriction a tad.
