Also, what is with these older GA and their 2.4's, why is the power so much more than the Alero with the 2.4?

Becuase that is the Quad 4 motor. Oldsmobile used it in the 91 Cutlass 442. First 4 banger to run in the 14's (14.7) straight from the factory

Because it made 180hp stock and ran in the low 15's to high 14's stock and could be made into a total sleeper.
