View Full Version : Carbon Fiber Spoiler

Here is the wing I just picked up from a friend of mine. He got it for $400 at hot import nights in chicago this past summer and just sold it to me for $150. Brand new in the box and everything. Hope this will look decent with the Kato kit. And If plans are to continue through with that carbon fiber hood buy, then i think that should look pretty damn decent also.
Anyways, here is a picture, it is quite adjustable, however, i think i am going to fabricate my own brackets at a near buy tech college. I know the instructor and he will let me use the laser cut.

sorry dude, but wings on our cars dont look good AT ALL. that kind of wing is something that might look decent on an import, but not on a domestic car like ours. theres only 2 spoilers that look decent on an alero: the Razzi wing (with a full body kit) and the stock one.....sorry man, i just aint digging it :(

you might be able to pull off the full project... carbon hood, lowered, AAS and that wing. but.. there is a good chance that wing will look... outta place. too high, too wirey. the only good wings iv'e seen on our cars are fiberglass.

I'll make this point. You know who could pimp this car on his ride??? BlackJack can. The reason I use him for an example is that his car is not an ordinary Al and once completely fine-tuned will smoke alot ricers on the street. It's a performance spoiler and is meant to be on a performance car, I don't mean just an intake and exhaust. Putting this on your car would be the true definition of RICER
**Disclaimer**
Black Jack's car does not endorse the use of carbon fiber nor has given an opinion on this topic and/or any other subject pertaining to said wing.

My car is far from its original stock form, so I may meet your requirements to voice my opinion. The wing is a bit much for our cars. The wing was designed for a japanese tuner car like in the picture. I actually prefer no wing at all on the alero. I think it's a lot smoother look. But if you like it, then more power to you but take a look thru the site and check out the other aleros with a similar wing and you might change your opinion.
CiscoPath
11-22-2006, 06:41 PM
So a typographical error makes me less intelligent?? Well welcome to Aleromod, smartass because you'll find that here. If your car isn't boosted or putting out enough power to run 12s (and you have mentioned no mods to back this up) then the wing's purpose of being light weight and aerodynamic are wasted. There's a reason we don't like the wing, IT'S SERVES OUR FWD NO PURPOSE, and we're not a community made up of "POSERS". So screw it, buy the wing, we will hate on it, you'll get irritated and leave the board. It's your car, RICE it up.
HAHA....and it's still just funny to me how an error makes me the weakest of the pack and how petty of YOU it was to even bring it up. If that's the best you got, you're in the wrong place, bud.
CiscoPath
11-22-2006, 07:03 PM
And no, the wing wouldn't do BlackJack any good either since it's FWD. No matter how much you're running. So no matter how you do the math, Rear Downforce-inducing wing + FWD = GAY.
And I checked all your previous post. Questions about gauge clusters, air intakes, mufflers, and headers? I mean that "powerhouse" should be already hav................OOOOHHHHHH, I see. Do yourself a favor, stop shooting the shit and just put the wing on. If you like, that's all that matters.
Man, I miss the days of Modalero

i think it will look okay with smaller brackets so it almost sits on the trunk. A carbon fiber cowl hood would really help it though.....

One thing to consider when putting a huge wing on a car is that it is a tip off to mechanics that you might be a sucker. I've been in garages talking with different mechanics and a kid would pull with a huge wing, everyone would smile and laugh because they knew easy money was coming their way. Also cops will keep a closer eye on you.

normally, I'd agree, but it does help prevent oversteer at 120mph and up. However, it is still gay on a lightly modified street Alero.
it is a tip off to mechanics that you might be a sucker. Also cops will keep a closer eye on you.
nail-on-the-head
Bottom line is, I say jack that thing up high and display it proudly if that's who you are, just dont expect to be taken seriously here. Carbon fiber only has a place on pure show cars and pro race cars (when you know how to use it properly). Other than that, Cisco has it right, it just says "poser".
now, about my stock rims and oldsmobile center caps....just like the rest of my car, all stock.

Sometimes I wonder if people devise these threads just to see the reactions they get, and what the thread develops into. Like a case study for university for something.
I've had my Alero no more than two weeks, and now that I own one, I realize how many are actually out there. I have a desire to make mine different, but I would never consider a huge wing. I saw a fat girl driving the exact same car as mine. kinda depressing.

I'm an oddball according to BlackJack's list too. I needed a freakin car BAD and after I test drove a neon (brand new 2003, non-SRT), a used Escort, and a new RSX, I went with the Alero. It's cheaper than the RSX, drives a WHOLE LOT nicer than the neon, and fuck Ford.

yep my alero cost.. lets see.. nothing?
but it didnt run!
the guy had locked up the engine or something b/c it was leaking oil and he let it run out.. it was a HUGE repair, my dad fixed it,(engine rebuild-maybe thats why he still runs like new?) then the guy dissapeared. He still owed money on it to other people but oh well, we pulled a lein on it and swallowed the bill. It was the only car we actually have kept on a lein. I had the choice of my alero or a '99 lexus sedan.. The alero was more fun to drive so i picked him! =) But this was.. oh.. 4 years and 60,000 miles ago. lmao. Even if we didnt get this car on lein my dad would likely have bought me an Alero, he liked them a lot when we rented one in Florida back in '99.

Amen to that brotha.....I had to learn from somewhere, because I certainly dont have the money for alot of R&D. I just know where to look for information on the people that did. Alot of what I am doing is experimental to some degree though. I dont know of anyone else yet that is running a Super-70 on a 3400, and my copper headgaskets I think are a first also with the N-body crowd. Though 3 of us bought them at the same time, I was the first to get them working right, another guy bailed because they're pricey, and the third guy didn't get them working right and dropped to graphite. Then again, I'm pusing 15psi and climbing, and I think he's hovering around 12 at the moment. Time will tell.

i believe a rebuilt engine can push 400, but no alero transmission or engine can. U throw one aftermarket component into either of the two and i believe it is no longer a true alero engine or tranmission. It's completely custom.
nhartwell
11-27-2006, 04:59 PM
I'm too lazy to go back and see what i stated in my first argument. But any car can be built to push 800+, if you are willing to spend an extreme ammount of money, and rip the whole thing apart.
Maybe I mislead everyone to say an alero can't push that much. but you will definately have to work with the engine to make it even think of keeping up with that type of power. You cannot just throw a few components on and expect it to run that much. Or at least I can't or don't know how to.

I'm too lazy to go back and see what i stated in my first argument. But any car can be built to push 800+, if you are willing to spend an extreme ammount of money, and rip the whole thing apart.

You, my friend, are a tool.
and BlackJack, you said "I understand your disbelief. Seems like all the people didn't believe Mr. Colombus when he said the world was round either."
...Technically, everyone already knew the earth was round at that time. Columbus was merely searching for an easier path, by ocean, to the east (Asia and India) from Europe. Basically, go west to go east. The whole deal about him saying the earth was round and no one believing him and all those cute stories are all make believe. He was responsible however, for the misnaming of all indigenous peoples from the USA. He believed he landed in the Spice Islands of India and named the people in the Carribean "Indians" which made sense...if he were in India like he thought he was.

That's with ANY engine for ANY car. That's why it's call AFTERmarket. Ya think since Honda parts are so cheap that you can slap 2 Gs worth of parts on it, and produce over 500 hp? Parts are nothing without tuning to make them work together, mechanically and electronically.
No one here is naive enough to think that "throwing a few components on" gives great numbers. Well, maybe the noobs, but they'll learn like we all did. But for you to come on here (being new yourself) and downplay the Alero and what it's capable of...........................
I think the question on everyone's mind is "Why do you own one?"

thanks for the history lesson, but I think you get my point.
I'm pretty much going to say this once for Mr. Hartwell's benefit, since I think the rest of you are pretty much aware already, and he's new guy on the block that knows everything.
First, lets define "stock" engine. I'm sure you've taken the time to not read the stuff I've done to mine. All (all? hahah) I've done with it is swapped in stage 3 heads/intakes, larger injectors, stage 3 turbo setup, headgaskets that will hold over 50psi, and a much larger MAF. There's more to add to it as I get the details worked out here shortly.
However, all the strength components (pistons, rods, crank) and the cam are all stock GM, that came in my car when I bought it. Not rebuilt, not aftermarket....nada.
Now, there are people in the 3400 V6 community with all different kinds of cars...Monte Carlo, Grand Am, even some Fiero swaps.....that are pushing 300-350hp a dime-a-dozen. The ONLY thing that was holding them down at that HP rate was either tune, headgaskets or transmission. And in all of those cases, the transmissions were '02 or older, and make mushroom-clouds at that HP level.
If you like, please feel free to visit some of the other sites for more information, and you'll find people just like myself pushing mid to high 12's in the 1/4 mile on stock bottom ends. www.mymonte.com (http://www.mymonte.com) www.grandamgt.com (http://www.grandamgt.com) www.gaownersclub.com (http://www.gaownersclub.com) www.60degreeV6.com (http://www.60degreeV6.com) just to name a few. If you'd like to voice your disbelief there as well, I'm sure you'll be laughed off their sites and probably treated much more harshly than you will here.
The only difference between them and me, is I'm running a larger turbo, have more head-work, and have the gaskets that will hold more boost. Takes slightly more time to spool, but it has more legs on top end (high band), and due to the unique headgaskets I have, I'm capable of sustaining higher boost levels than they are.
Now, we have probably some 30+ active members on this site alone that are aware of what I've done with this stock bottom end 3400, and if you think it's likely that I just "fooled them all" then you're basically calling them all a bunch of idiots. Not cool bro, I think there's enough people here that know the 3400 and what it is capable of handling.
Now instead of trying to prove that you know everything, and can tell us all what is possible and not possible in cars we've been handling performance on for quite awhile, why not just sit back and enjoy the show, and who knows...you might just learn something.

If there is one show you should go to this year it's ASS'07! Get your ass outa your dad's recliner and go. You might learn something about Alero's and Oldsmobile in the same weekend.
Lansing Michigan is the location for ASS'07, you could caravan with somebody.
