cavi turbo kit [Archive]

has anyone put a 2.4L cavi turbo kit on their car. i want to know if everything is the same, i know it is but i was mainly conserned about the headers...i want to know if everything runs off the same (turbo and exhaust). i'm possibly getting a kit from my winter project next year. i'm broke so that's why i'm doing it next year.

Well if your getting the parts for a Z28 Cavy then yes the parts will bolt up directly into the motor. PCM must be tune-up tho

ok, first off, you want to get one for a Z24 cavalier. that's the one with the twincam engine. as far as pcm tuning, hptuners is your best route. j-body.org has a FAQ on piecing together your own kit. blackjack would be a good reference as well. good luck, not an easy project to get to run properly.

For a pcm tune SCT makes a kit for any GM, I need to make a post about this, but as for a z24 cavi turbo kit, its a staight bolt on if u got a 2.4l. Hope u rebuilt ur tranny and forged ur engine tho.

Don't worry about forged internals, rebuilt tranny, or PCM reflash. You don't need any of it. It's not incredibly hard to turbo a 2.4 engine it's just time consuming providing you build your own kit.

If you get a kit for a Z24 Cavalier, most of the pieces will fit. You may have to get new intercooler pipes fabbed and you'll definitely need a new downpipe. Try to get a kit with some type of fuel management included. Stay away from the Maximum Boost "kit"!

Best bet is to piece together your own kit. Do some research and like 2fst4u said, visit J-body.org and check out the boosted section, there's a ton of info to help you out there. On a stock engine you can run up to 10psi providing you have capable fuel management. There have been others who push more and been fine but I personally wouldn't go more than 10 without stronger internals.

another question... auto or manual tranny... all the prefab kits are set up for manuals as far as i know... i helped a buddy boost his 96 z24... had to rerout the shift cable to make way for the intake... he pieced his together though so i'm not sure about the prefabs... intercooler piping you can do yourself if you are handy.
