My '03 baby showed it's first evidence of rust at 39K/3 years- on the door inside edges where the inner and outer door panels are sort of crimped together.
Same as on my '00 Intrigue, that showed same about 1 1/2 years ago.
The Alero is garaged nightly and waxed (including the insides of the doors no less) 2-3X a year.
Anyone else getting this? Too late for a rust arrestor coating at a Ziebart store (that's the stuff that turns black, crispy, and 'arrests' rust upon contact).:hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

they use a mixture call 'grits'- a mix of tiny rocks, calcium chloride, and a small (unknown) percentage of sodium chloride (salt).

It still owns cars. South Jersey still uses salt, and they use salt in weather <20*. Hense why I'm looking at some steelies for winter.

I like my alero but I got the same problem and I also have paint peeling and flaking off on that same spot welded seam but at the front of the door behind the hinges. Some suit dummy at GM told me it was my fault cuz I didnt wax or use a protectant there? What the fuck? who waxes behind the hindges?and regardless paint should not flake off on a car thats 3 years old and they shouldnt rust there either. Its past the year 2000 and they cant make a product that doest rust.I had 1965 Impala with original paint and it wasnt flaking off after 35 years.I like GM but they sure fuck up alot.I feel your pain man

^GM doesn't want their cars to last 35 years anymore. They want it to turn to shit after 4-6 years so you have to go buy a new one.

^^right on the head. Worked at the local GM in Paint/Finesse. You wouldn't believe how many trucks came out the oven with burn marks, two-toned, dirt baked in, overspray and sagging in the door jams, and peeling. If the blemish is not right in your face like the hood or trunk lid, it's shipped right over to final line. And that's just paint, i'm sure the other departments were just as bad.
Quantity, not quality

I have the same problem, only on my front fender. Its flaking off of the front bumper (On the side, by the driver door), as well as on my hood.
