Are any of you parting out an Alero or know of any in wrecking yards particularly in Las Vegas? What I need is a replacement water pump and timing chain for a 2000 2.4. It will cost me over $1100 for a mechanic to get the parts and do the job. I'm just trying to save some money if I can. There are some other parts I would like to get my hands on like a rear spoiler.

Timing chain from AutoZone/Advance Auto, last time I checked ran around $55. If I were you I would replace the tensioner at the same time, as they are notorious for going bad. (Another $55) The water pump for the 3400 was around 20, but I think the 2.4 water pump will run you a little more. Altogether, you should be able to get everything for under $200.

The water pump on the 2.4 is a pita. I recommend getting a new one anyways inst********* of a boneyard parts. Total for the chain kit and water should not run you over $300.00. If you have some mechanical skills and a few days you can do it yourself. Just remember DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE UNTIL YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE THE TIMING IS RIGHT I am not telling you to do it yourself but you can do it with common garage tools.
