Need something that sounds good and performs well. What is my best route.

Muffler/Convert/Catback, etc...

I do not want something that sounds like i should be bringing it out to the pipeline and mud running the damn thing. Something deep, but not raspy I guess. Nothing that sounds like a truck/diesel/or muscle car, because an alero is neither of the 3. But definately not civic sounding either...

I still cannot decide on this matter... So maybe sound clips or what not of a good setup. I want it to sound like a fucking race car and perform like one :)

Here's the setup for you: Pacesetter header, Magnaflow high flow cat, 2 Vibrant resonators, Vibrant "Streetpower" muffler, all 2.5" diameter piping. Won't be incredibly loud but will sound nice and give you probably the best flowing exhaust you can get for an N/A 2.4

a header will give you a little raspyness. if you were to go with a 2.5 to 2.25 cat back with magnaflow it would sound good.

i got header, high flow cat and slp pipes with magnaflow and it sounds good.

When I had my alero I had a custom cat back made for it. Very affordable, and it sounded REALLY good.

i like the streetpower universal double tip muffler.. I think that would look nice :)

So what exactly is a catback system consist of. I see pacesetter has one for the 2.4...

I'm not too keen on exhaust

Actually I like this setup 2fst4u has. 2.25" piping from the header to the resonator stepped up 2.5" to the muffler. This keeps the velocity high and also lets the engine breath on the top end.

It seems like a lot of people are more concerned with how an exhaust sounds rather than how well it flows. It's true that pretty much any aftermarket exhaust system will flow better than stock, but there are certain ones that will flow better than others. For the most power you want the least amount of backpressure you can get along with the shortest path for the exhaust piping.

Using straight thru resonators and mufflers (like those from Magnaflow and Vibrant) will allow for unrestricted flow. I mentioned using 2 resonators earlier because an exhaust with all straight thru mufflers tends to be a little louder than with baffled mufflers. So since the straight thru resonators don't add any restriction, you can put in as many as you want to get the desired sound. But instead of using 2 short resonators, you could use 1 long one. Dynomax has the Thrush glasspack that is straight thru and is pretty long also, and only costs 20 bucks I think. A lot of the J-body guys use them and have been very happy with them. That would be better than getting 2 Vibrant resonators for 70 bucks a piece or whatever they are.

thanks for the compliment spilner. that setup has given me a basis for my supercharger setup that i'm adding. the header i have is the one that the 2 fastest j-body.org guys have. it's manufactured well, and is dirt cheap for stainless.

Are you talking good turbo exhaust or the entire turbo setup? If you mean exhaust, your best bet would be 3" piping from the turbo all the way back with a high flow cat and all straight thru muffllers.

Nice..that exhaust setup will work well with the supercharger :thumb:
