Muffler + exhaust

I am thinking about getting a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler with a Magnaflow High-Flow Catalytic Converter....

Sound like a good mix? Performance + sound?

Also if I go with the 40 series, i am debating between 40 series delta flow or 40 series delta force race line

i would personally go with both magnaflow cat and muffler, but thatll work too.

40 series will give you a good sound but not sure if a new cat will give you that much more hp

Don't do the cat unless your doing the entire exhaust. GM cats flow pretty good, but if you do replace the cat, you'll need an O2 sim, becuase your SES light WILL come on

i don't know... i prob cant get that 40 to sound like it does on the site seeing im a 4 cylinder n/a...

my best bet might be all magnaflow

but am i going to gain much horsepower with a full exhaust system, headers and back or not? or am i best off turboing it if i am willing to spend the time and money into it.

bottom line its your car you do what you want. we can only give suggestions and there will always be different suggestions. i was saying all magnaflow because i have had amazing results from them and i never liked flowmaster. too raspy sound, you can always tell its a flowmaster. i dont know what it will sound like on a 4 so.....

What I would do, if your going to do headers in the future then yes do a cat back now, just buy the O2 sim from PFYC.com, you'll need it

80's work well, they do make a single in single out on the same side, but didn't you say you're kitting the car? If so go with the 80 single in dual outs. With the headers, you'll be happy.

I wouldn't go bigger than 2.5" on the entire set-up. You do want to free up tooo much backpressure. With a cat back you're looking at about anywhere from a 5 to 10 HP gain. 10 on a 4 banger is pushing it, I'd say you'll most likey get 7 to 8 hp gain from this (crank)

Some headers boast a 20 HP gain, at the wheels but that's on the V6 Aleros. Most of the V8 headers I've looked at also boast a 20 HP gain at the wheels. I've seen 4 banger headers boast about a 15 hp increase, but you have to decied if you want a 4-2-1 header or just a 4-1 header. Which means 4 exhaust ports go to 2 pipes then to 1 collector and into the rest of the exhaust, the 4-1 just cuts out the 2 pipes joining. One is better than the other, but it's been so long I forget which is better. I think 4-1 is best for an all out race car and wouldn't work too well on a street car.

If you are considering a turbo, wait, a good turbo kit will come with a header

the org 40 is 1 chamber and is best for sound and older cars

The Delta flow is 2 chambers and is good for cars like yours

The Super 40 is tooooo much muffler for just about any V6 let alone a I-4

If you want the most performance, use the Magnaflow mufflers. They're all straight thru instead of chambered like Flowmasters. Chambered mufflers are better than stock, but don't offer the best performance because they slow down the exhaust flow. With the Magnaflow high flow cat, you will not throw a check engine light. They are OBD-2 certified so that they don't. I have a Magnaflow cat on my car and haven't had any CEL's for the cat.

If you're planning on turboing the car, your best bet would be a 3" exhaust from the turbo back. So if you want to do the exhaust now and then redo it later for the turbo that's up to you. Or if you're planning on using this cat-back exhaust for the turbo, get at least 2.5" piping with a 2.5" cat.
