i just got a pioneer cd player for my 2002 alero.talked to a place that installs them and they told me the factory stereo is hooked up to the power braking, air bag's, and other things.they told me it will cost $230.00 canadian to bypass this when installing the new aftermarket cd player.called a GM dealer and they told me the same.has every one here had to do this,or am i getting jerked around.paid $350.00 for the cd play and now i have to pay almost $300.00 to get it in my car.im pissed.

I have a 2002 with an aftermarket stereo. All you need is the wiring harness which any pro audio shop can supply you. It is about $200 in extra parts you need since the harness alone costs about $140 for our cars. I did mine myself and I have no warning lights whatsoever ;).

Haha, they lie. You don't need that garbage, if they even did anything! Hell, they probably just charged you for a nonexistant part. Couple guys I know work with sound, and the Alero definitely doesn't need any special treatment, save for a wiring harness to make the job easier.

And at diablo, $530 WTF?

That's what I mean, my order came with free harnesses and wiring from Scosche; I don't see why his would be so much different (and gouged so much on the price)

the chimes are run through 01+ aleros. if you use the 99-00 harness you have to run your own switched power(ACC), and you'll lose chimes. air bags, and other shit are myths. the scocshe chime module is like $120 from best buy and right around $100 most other places. if you can get it at cost from somewhere or near wholesale it'd save you some money.

Look into American International harness's.

I think I seen the harness you guys are talking about for $40. Relocates the factory radio to the trunk...

nah, that AI is bout 40. i used to get em for like $20 my cost. the one im talkin about you dont have to relocate. it's a chime module and gives you ACC. that AI harness you still have to run your own ACC to it not to mention the pain in the ass relocating that piece of crap to the trunk

I need to take my glove box out to access my harness to plug back in the stock unit...

My Too Short CD is still in it :(
