Well for all of the Alero faults in quality I have been pretty fortunate with my 2.4 L '99. 100,000 miles of Maine driving and all I've had to do is have the battery relpaced, new pads and rotors (only once), 4 new tires at 75k (I replace the BFG's with Hercules HP4000), and have a new cruise control button installed. My blower resister is bad but I just self regulate it by turning up the blower and turning the temp dial to find the right temp. I also had the speed sensor/bearing/shitty Alero thing replaced on the passenger side.
I plan on changing out the plugs and wires in the summer and other than that it's still pretty solid. Regular Oil changes and a can of Engine Restore every other change seems to be working well.
Happy driving
