I put SS badges on my Alero when I bought it and Oldsman just loves to give me shit. It's a Chevy motor in my car for cryimg out loud! Besides it makes a lot of people look at my car and they always say "That's cool they made an Alero SS" What do you think? http://www.aleromod.com/forums/c;?

yes, take them off. its just as bad as putting a V-Tech sticker on your car, it isnt a model of your car. Chevy makes SS cars, not Oldsmobile...

yeah, not cool dude.
However, if you have the V6, and you get the parts (ie: ram air intake, slightly more aggressive transmission, suspension components) that the GAGT has and the Alero doesn't have, I'd say GT badges are justified.

Its not cool because they didn't make an Alero SS. There is a guy in my town with "Alero GT-R" decals on the side of his Alero, and it is just as lame. Anyways, what was the point of this thread other than flame bait? You already knew that the stickers sucked.

The "Chevy Alero" overseas may get away with it, but.. not on an Oldsmobile badged car.

If I Can shoehorn a 455 Olds on a Toranado transaxle with the 4-barrel and dual exhaust could I badge it a 442?
mrmike
01-01-2007, 04:13 PM
no. only an actual Cutlass that came with the 442 package from the factory can be a 442. Even if you restored a Cutlass and did the 442 package to it, it would still be considered just a clone. Rebadging is lame. You see, badging is meant to let people know what kind of car you drive. If you just change the badging, you're just lying to anyone who sees your car. Its basically like Michael Jackson trying to be white.

I Agree... However when the schmuck in the Honda see OSV or GLS they don't Know what the fuck that is... at least SS is almost known by the whole world. Besides fuck the factory, If they would have put the Alero together properly in the first place the bastard would have came with a motor worth a shit to begin with!!!!! SORRY.... I've been a little pissed at my car

01-01-2007, 04:27 PM
If you care what some schmuck in a Honda thinks, why did you buy a damn Oldsmobile? If you want something to impress teenagers with, you could have at least gotten a Grand-Am GT. I mean, GT means its a race built supercar, right? Lamesauce I say, olds/pontiac/honda/toyota are all basically the same size and horsepower, are basically the same shape and price range.

I don't care what the Tennies in there Honda's think at least not anymore. When I bought it oh 4 years ago it was actually supposed to be my wifes car jfyi. I kinda hijacked it from her though. I don't know, I need to strip this thing down though and really put some money into it since it has been riden like the AlerHo I have treated it as.

no point in doing that. its not a new car anymore, its been abused obviously and its probably just time to sell or trade it in for something else. You could probably find a cavalier z24 or save up some money and buy something with an actual SS badge.

When you're in debt to your eyeballs, it is not an option. 2 kids later will do that to a lot of people. Besides I always have to learn the hard way about things. Badges are gone and it is going up on jackstands in about a month for a refit. I get really attached to my cars. they are hard to just trade off at least for me.

I disagree. The only time u should be modifying a car is after its used or abused. who the hell would ruin the resale value on a brand new car? might as well buy something out of a junkyard and rebuild or wait till the resale goes down hill to start modifying... common sense.

yes i'm mr rice.. or i guess mr actually modifies his car which is also known as 'rice' to all the talkers who cant afford to do things to their car. Or are just jealous one car is better than theirs... Fake internet words rock i guess. I love the translation i just interpreted. Seems like i hit the nail right on the head with that one...

I never said anything was wrong with modding an older used car, but the guy blew up the engine on it once already, so it was obviously not getting the best treatment. It isn't a good idea to mod a new car, but the older it gets the more problems there are to fix and sometimes the car will plain old reject the modification because the original part has worn away the mounting structure. It's also no fun to deal with rust, and all the engine parts do nothing to help a tired old engine. Its his car, he can do what he wants to it, but he asked our opinion and got a reply.
Anyways, you should all be proud of your rice heritage, I think everyone goes through that phase. Fortunately most people can't afford to rice out a car when they want to be putting neons and stickers all over the place. But go with it, learn some lessons and have some fun. No one stays rice forever.

For what it is worth, The SS badges are gone. And I never was even wanting to be a ricer more like anti-ricer. The motor is ok in my ride but the whole drive train is probably going to get yanked and replaced this year. Anyways, different isn't always better.

Im not gonna tell you what I think about it,cuz it doesnt matter, but what matters is if you like it,I dont like half the shit I see on here but its not done to my car so what do I care.If you like it keep it.In your defense its all GM,and if Chevrolet can put a GM logo on a Cobalt behind the front tire why the fuck cant you put SS logos on an Olds?I think it is a bit of bastardization to the SS lineup but GM has already done that by building front wheel drive four door sedans with that logo,so I say go ahead if you like it.

anyways.. i love how everyone seems to think everyone must have the same taste in car as one another.. and that all cosmetics are rice vs performance mods.. if anything, spending money to make an alero fast vs just buying something with more horse and not defacing ur car is rice and ignorant in that case. But for us it is all a hobby. we all do what we like and none of us ask ur opinion if u think our cars are rice or not. anyways, my car is not a food.. it is a hobby/project, and it gets me from point a to b. BTW: Rice is a noun not an adjective.. english dictionary. GG

Since it was made after circa 1990, the engine is officially a product of GM Powertrain. However the roots of the engine are in fact Chevrolet.
This is for the most part right, but there are errors.

I consider putting expensive racing seats in a STOCK alero rice. i also find even CONSIDERING putting a big ass park bench on a STOCK alero rice and carbon trim looks good if not to much you on the other hand are doing up the WHOLE alero carbon theme with wind splitters (which will do nothing for speed) any engine mods?
nhartwell
01-02-2007, 08:33 AM
Racing seats are not rice + stock seats = fugly
Carbon fiber is a performance mod (weight:speed ratio)
Engine mods that are waiting to be installed: magnaflow cat, magnaflow muffler, and cosmo racing short ram intake.
Still looking into headers, 2.3 HO Manifold, and 56mm throttle body.

well, yes, inherently racing seats are one of the "ricier" mods out there. combined w/ having the front racing seats and the stock rear seat, it does look rather rediculous...
olds2race
01-02-2007, 09:15 AM
well anyone with a brain would know to reupolster the rear seat to match the front or remove it completely and do something with all the space.
Do what you want its your car.

umm, he does, thats the whole point of this thread. but i do agree, even though some dont like it, there is no reason you should do anything you would regret in the end just based on what other people like...
