Stock rim offset?

I'm looking at rims right now and I'm trying to figure out if any of the ones I'm interested in will even fit.... what is the most offset a person can go without hitting anything?

18's are the biggest i would go

I didn't mean actual height size... I meant the how far in the rims can go without hitting anything... like for instance... I know on my 01 gls with my stock 6 spokes there is only like 2-4 mm between the caliper and the spokes

which rims is that for though? i believe they are different depending on which rims cuz i swear the 99-01 GLS rims are either 40 or 42 offset...i'll have to look at my rims i think they say on the inside.......

I really did think the stock 16" alloys are +40 from reading all kinds of sites.
