View Full Version : Power wire through firewall?

Hey all!

Ive got a sub and an amp I'd like to put in the trunk of my Alero, so I'm wondering where a good spot would be to run a 4 gauge power wire through the firewall? I see there's a grommet at the top of the firewall on the drivers side, but where does it go? Is it easy to get a power wire though? It looks like it would be tough to get to the other side of it.

If you're wondering why I'm using 4 gauge, I'm going to a distribution block in the trunk, and then down to smaller wire, so that I already have the 4 gauge there if I decide to add more amps in the future.

Thanks for anything!

I would go straight thru the grommet in the fire wall using a punch or screwdriver to make a small hole just large enough to fit the power wire thru but still really tight. :coolio: I used 1/0 Stinger power wire and it was tough but worth it.

I always used a metal coat hanger to help out. You punch the coat hanger through from the inside and put through so there is coat hanger on the in and outside of the grommet. Next you take your power wire and tape it a good one to the coat hanger. Once you have it secured, pull it back through carefully. If it falls off, tape it up again and try it again.

Take Double0's idea one step further and tape the power wire to coat hanger before pushing it through. Also wrap the tape into a cone as best you can and good couple inches up the coat hanger. If you're still having issues use a little bit of 3-n-1 oil.

or buy the actual tool from snap on. it allows you to poke the hole with it and slide the wire through the tool

I used a coat hanger.

Wire snake?

Seems like we all have the same gromet in mind. Thats where mine went thru also.

No its not fun. But do it right and do it once

It was so easy...

Take wire snake, poke it thru the grommet, pull it up. Tape wire to it, pull thru.

Done.

After I decided to go with that grommet, it took me 10 minutes to pull and route the power wire.
