Got home today to find a big old box outside. It's my fiberglass fenders!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/clutch1234/DSC00152.jpg
I like how they feel, and as far as I can tell there aren't any major issues with them (just eyeballing, there aren't any huge pieces missing or anything).
I'll probably try fitting one up later tonight and decide if I want to do it myself or let the shop. I'm thinking I'll be able to pull it off, though.
Also, the vents aren't cut out, is it supposed to be like that to keep debris out or could I cut a little vent rectangle hole (where it's supposed to be on the vent, of course) to perhaps light up or something? Or would that compromise strength and make the inside constantly messy?

let the shop do that..dont fuck em up ;)

nice.... and dont cut out the "vents"

those aren't meant to be vents.. so i definately would not cut them out. but dude, those things look great, how much did u pay?

why not cut them out? they will help with heat, not much but every little bit helps.... not like it'll hurt anything, just throw some mesh on them and your good...
oh and just so we're clear your not talking about the flat face correct? cuz that would be fugly... just the very end would be cut? that would be fine IMO and wouldn't hurt anything

Dont cut out the vents. It won't help out with the heat too much. The vent isn't even close to the engine compartment. But when you install those.. they aren't like metal fenders, so don't over tighen them or you'll crack out the surrounding areas. Then you'll need to reglass the bolt holes.

But isn't something supposed to be......done with it? Or is the only benefit the "look" and that it's fiberglass. At least "cleanly" put one or two leds in it
whiteliquid

if you have to do it...then drill you some small holes for some leds...but dont cut out a hole. Leave them the way they came IMO...not many people have those so they are already custom enough.
x2 on not to overtighten the bolts....

That's what I was talking about for cutting out the vents, I'm not that dumb.
I like the drilling a hole idea, though. The only reason I wanted to cut them out was to do this:
http://www.oznium.com/images/vette_shark_gills_tn.jpg, so drilling holes for like 2-3 LEDs per vent will work well.
I'll be extra careful tightening bolts if I do get that far, thanks for the tip guys! (so far I only have my old fender off and I'm poking around with how the new one's gonna fit on.) Right now it sure seems like the fit is amazing(just kind of lining it up and eyeballing)!
They cost about $270 shipped for a pair.
Oh! And I have a question... how the heck can I get the "rocker panel" off. I need about 6 inches of it to be able to flex down to slip the bottom of the fender into it and I've been yanking on it and prying on it and it just won't come off (It's held on w/ x-mas tree plugs, right?). Is there a special way to get it off? (I've already removed the screw that hold the clips on under the car.)

hmm that looks nice :), maybe just drill the holes or cut for a very small mesh area and put the led's behind it.

the molding is held on to the rocker panle with clips that are pretty much a one time deal, if ya have a clip tool pry from the rocker its self and the molding it should pop off yes they are a bitch and strong but pry the molding and push up or down to release the clips

Can't you go to Pep Boys or something and buy more of them?

Eh, I got it. HAd to stand on it and kinda bounce to finally get it to pop one off (gave me enough to play with), and yea... The clip busted (it was cold, go figure I guess).
Anywho, I got it mounted up and the fit is excellent. Around the headlight is good, the door gap is good, and the hood gap is good. I'm really happy. Hopefully the passenger side works as well as the driver's side did. I didn't bolt the bumper to it. I'll pop some pics up in a sec, I gotta get some crap done right now.

Yea, the fender side isn't tightened down 100% so it's kinda high there, The part you bolt down was angles up a little higher than it was supposed to be so I tightened the hood bolts down until it crackled a bit, and I figured I'd tighten them down bit by bit each day so I don't put too much pressure on it at once and snap it. The hood gap'll look better soon as it slowly gets tigthened down, plus I might've mis-aligned the hood when I was moving it around. Don't worry, it'll look better.
It's not really a waste of money either, have you seen my car, kwhauk? I hit a deer and decimated my front fender, so instead of replacing with stock I just decided to spend a little extra and got these nifty fiberglass ones with the vents. Yay for insurance.

dude, like i said, cut the lil slit and throw some mesh in... sorry but i hate seeing non functional "scoops" and "vents" that are blocked off
besides, you want to see the effect of lighting, not the light itself ;)

still not a fan of them, i think they are kind of ugly......but wondering if you could take a weight measurment cuz i am wondering what the difference is between them and stock fenders......thanx, Kyle

might actually be heavier depending on the thickness and cloth used... ;)

Is it just me or does that tire look a little low???? I like it, but I don't think it really goes with the flow of our cars.... too boxy on a curved car...

I think the fenders are made to match the AAS kit
If you look at the front of the kit it has the same type of cut out

I think it looks low, too. I took the pressure today and it was 32.. I forget what they're supposed to be but the rest of the tries were 32, too. Maybe I'll give them a couple more pounds.
Also, I don't have a proper scale, but I'll tell you they're a bit lighter than metal I'd say, just by holding both, still, they still have mass and all. It's not a BIG difference, only barely noticeable. You're right, I don't think weight matters to my Alero full of lights n crap.
The forbidden front will be here soon hopefully. Can't wait for that. I'm buying Richie's forbidden rear when he gets better from his back surgery, so it's a tossup when I can get the rear bumper. Also, I'm planning on some Razzi side skirts someday.. I'll rpobably get them when I get the rear bumper and get them both painted at once. (I saw a forbidden alero with razzi skirts once and it looked tight I thought, so that's my reasoning).
I think I perhaps will go with the cutting out of the vents now that some people say blocked ones look dumb. It is the truth, and mesh would keep crap from falling in and hide the LEDs better. Hoo boy, fun fun.
It is true the vents are pointy, but I think since the forbidden kit has points on it it'll look pretty decent.
No comment on rims.... who knows when I'll be able to get those. (probably not till spring/summer because of salty roads anyway)

you should leave your tires at 32, i always put 31 in, dont forget when you drive and your tires heat up, the pressure goes up about 4 pounds, just leave them as they are

I saw Aftermath brush on this point, but it may need to be elaborated a little bit more with what you're doing. I would seriously recommend not bothering to "tighten" them up until you've decided what you're gonna do about modifying it i.e. vents, lighting. I don't know....................anything really about fiberglass but I do know about repeatedly adding/removing parts. After awhile, the integrity of the fiberglass will start to wear due to the tightening, expanding, loosing, tightening, expanding to the point that it might break and from what I've heard from other people, fiberglass can be tempermental. If at all possible, try to do it all in one attempt (mesh, lighting, wiring, etc.) to avoid the re-glassing mentioned

wow^^^^ wow
from what i saw the hood gap is not looking to good, a quality fiberglass part is not going to loose its integrity or shape or what have ya
fiberglass can also be shaped with heat yes heat, you can add to it take seom away, if ya do any minor re shaping do it with sand paper not a high power air tool, if the fender gap looks like shit to the door make a bracket to kick it out to the door
the hood well i would start with the bump stop and raise it up a bit on both sides see what happens, if not ya can always try a shim
so many ways so many little tricks real hard to teach ya online
if it is to much let the shop align the front end, and ya if not experience with a heat gun and fiberglass don`t do it
