what are you going for, function or looks? i have 18's and they're a little heavier than i'd like. regardless, lowering isn't a problem. bad driving in lowered cars is a problem. lol

I put 17's on my car, because you get a little more sidewall with 17's than 18's

I bent a 16" stocker and 2 17's on potholes. But the 2 17's where at the same time

Redog do you realize that you spelled secretary wrong in the line under your name? But for this dude, if you want speed do 17's if not do 18's they do look better but will slow you down.

If you go with 18's on stock suspension it will look like a monster truck/car, maybe you don't mind but mine looked stupid the month mine was like that.

redog, what size are your tires and is your car lowered?

I'm lowered with Eibach, only a 1.25 inch drop, and I'm sitting on Michellen Pilot Exalto Sports A/S 225/45/17's

Lightweight 18's are out there, it's just the 17's are lighter, and the smaller tire gives less rolling resistance. The effects are very little, so if your going for looks, a nice set of 18's will work fine. Try to stay away from chrome. Polished shines just as much at more than 1/2 the weight. Weight will kill MPG, and overall performance

With 18's your looking at 225/40/18 tires. Personally the "40" is why I didn't go with the 18's. Like I said earlier, I bent a few rims already.

Try places like www.tirerack.com (http://www.aleromod.com/forums/www.tirerack.com) they give a lot of info on the rims they sell and www.1010tires.com (http://www.aleromod.com/forums/www.1010tires.com) has a very handy tire size calulator to make sure the speedo stays right on the money.

Also "Kwhauck" posted this the other day http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16193

Im gettin 17's basically because of the roads around here. And i dont go to alot of shows. Plus tires for 17's are way cheaper and last longer. And i dont plan on owning the alero for more than a couple more years.

im planning on going with 18 inch gram lights.... they still way lighter that my stockers and will have a decent sidewall (about 3.5 inchs) and yet keep the stock overall diameter :)

alright, find another light weight rim thats strong aswell and looks halfway decent and can take corners....

i dont care about the name, only the performance... thats the reason i recomend MP racing and the 60degreev6 store, the parts work, thats all i care about

motegi traklites and traklite 2s...

El_Diablo

hmmm, first off they dont make a wheel large enough for my application (i need a low profile tire for cornering and a wide tire to put down the power im hoping to make) and second it looks like they're more expensive... and last it looks like they would be heavier at the size i do need

nice but better luck next time...

255s aren't wide enough for you, cuz that is what i'll be squeezing on my 17x8 rims? More expensive, I don't see which gram lights you are looking at because all the ones I see available are $300 plus per wheel, whereas the motegi traklites and traklite 2s are both under $250 per wheel.......

Anyone elses tires loud as hell when driving down the road kind of like a humming noise..
I've got 17"s with a 225/45/R17 Michelin Pilots 80,000 mile tire but their very loud..
Personaly I don't mind the sound but My cars not lowered and I like the way it looks with 17s the rims look like the belong on the car unlike the Olds up their with like 24"s on it lol

you just have to know where to go :p

and im actually looking at something around 9-10 inches which will be more ideal for a 255 (im trying to keep sidewall flex to a minimum)

haha........your never gonna fit a 9 or 10 in wide rim without it sticking out and looking like a dumbass meximobile......

he would also need to buy every accessory available at Pep Boys including the curb feelers to pull that off. It takes work to make a decent Meximobile. Viva Suavacito
